You are making this worse for me! I just want to go buy it right now lol

I am not financing at credit card rates it is 0% for 12 months. My parents are paying for part of it and would rather not drop a lot of money at once when it can be paid off over the course of a few months at 0% interest.

Just be VERY careful, pay it off early. You miss your deadline by 1 day and you might be on the hook for a lot of interest charges.

If and when I approved, it will be paid off a month or two early to avoid any problems :)

It been about a year since I switched, and it took no more then 6 month for my hubby to join me. We have not looked back since. :)

I used a IBM Thinkpad (when the Thinkpad was made by IBM not Lenovo) for almost 5 years before I switched, there wasn't many teens walking around with Thinkpads back then. I made the switch to a 09 Mac mini this past March which I actually bought as a HTPC/Media Server and not my main machine but I have been using it as one until I get my 13" MBP tomorrow :) and the mini will be a full-time HTPC/Media Server. My mom still uses her DELL laptop but it is on it's last legs and she does like how small and quiet the Macbook is compared to her DELL so there is a possibility she switches soon. My brother is going to pick up a HP mini 1000 and hackintosh it, he is not really switching since he has a recently new Windows based desktop for gaming and everyday use but at least he's dabbling with OS X. My dad still uses his Thinkpad and I doubt he will switch anytime soon, I actually think he is going to buy a new one. So that makes it one potential switch coming soon, a half way/part-time/not really switch, and 99.5% not going to switch in my family.

i know what you mean OP
my dad has been using windows ever since he was my age (17), he is now 42. so you do the math lol. and he knows alot about windows but viruses gets him super frusterated.

this dell desktop i have right now is a 2.0 GHZ 512MB RAM 160GB HD. it runs pretty slow and i have convinced my dad to buy an iMac. I am putting in $650 and he's gonna put $650.

He said that he wanted to buy a $300 computer but i told him NO!! this is the time to switch. my older sister isnt so supportive cause i just talk about how great Apple products are. Ive basically have just been purchasing the iPod/shuffle, original, touch, nano. and they work great. She says they are not perfect and that her sony Vaio is great even after two years. well guess what it just started to crash consistently and it has multiple viruses. :p

then my dad was like Well what about compatibility. i told him that it can run windows also. he still seems pretty skeptical but at least i made sure he isn't paying full price. thats where i really got him, when i told him that i would pay half for it he seemed okay with that, plus i told him that he could get the education discount

so this afternoon we are going to bestbuy and purchase our first :apple: computer

That is awesome! Every time my mom sees an iMac, she goes "These are beautiful!". They truly are a wonderful computer! I bet your dad will be converted soon :)

I have been using MAC for almost four years. Everything went well with MAC.
The main issue with lot of people for switching to MAC is the price.

My opinion is when you can afford it, buy MAC, it will bring a lot of more fun to your family.
Like easy to use photo/movie/music/webpage/postcards editing and creation.

You meant Mac, right. MAC stands for Media Access Control.

i just bought an iMac yesterday :)
my dad loves it.

the bestbuy guy pretended to not know about a student discount but i told him where to go and he was like "yeah we'll match that"

and then when we went to pay for it. i asked the guy, "have you put the discount already?" and he's like "I'll do it after he(my dad) signs." So then my dad signs and as he is about to swipe the card my dad asked him if he discounted the $50 and the guy was like "oh im sorry, let me do that right now"

psh, i already knew what i was gonna get and if i wasnt there my dad would have gotten frusterated with the offers of the warranty, mobile me, iwork, wireless keyboard, and printer.

i told the guy "no we just wanna buy the iMac, we dont want the rest."
well anyways, i got the base model because it really meets my needs. i could have waited but i dont need the latest and greatest. im glad with my purchase :D its beautiful!

i finally got my Mac today :). This is my first post on MR with it :). It is fantastic! I am just installing software now and still admiring it! My dad is already falling in love with it haha

Which did you get? I forgot .

If I had my Mac mini upstairs, I'm sure my dad would use it, although he has been a Windows guy forever.

I would love to continue this coverstation, but it seems that you already have and love your mac. Congrats! I was hardcore against apple and all their products a few years back, i hated ipods, macs, osx, and everything else. I thought they were inferior to nearly everything out there, but everyone had ipods and wanted a Mac because they were stylish, shiny, and white.

I ended up getting a White Macbook for college. I was very specific with the hardware i wanted as this is the first computer i would be purchasing new. I wanted penrynn core and all this stuff, I was very picky. The white macbook, with a free ipod touch and printer and my school discount was a very good value for the hardware. I was thinking i'd run bootcamp mainly. Slowly, as ive learned the keyboard shortcuts, found great 3rd party apps, and gotten used to the interfact, I can do things probably faster than i ever did with windows. Though I am happy with my purchase, there are some things that just don't work well with mac and good 3rd party apps are hard to find, as they all have obscure names.

Also, i never onced used Garageband, iMovie, iDVD, etc that shipps with Mac, thats not why i bought the computer. I mention this, because this is often a big selling point for macs, but it was not my interest, and I still like my machine.

Again, a ramble of a post. Anyways, best of luck!!

The base 13.3" MBP. It is perfect ;). I am trying to kill the battery now, says 4:40 hours left and I am installing a ton of stuff!

I am still trying to get used to the caps lock key. I love how it works, but I am not use to it yet!

So much to do!!!
