Buying now means you're paying original price for last year's product. Would you buy a 2015 car when the 2016 model costs the exact same, and comes with improved features?

[PS: For those who want to blast me for re-igniting this thread, I can only say that that's what you get from the "Similar Threads" being shown at the bottom of a topic. And, this certainly is a reality check, from some people's mindsets, isn't it? In fact, someone here in Oct. 2016 is probably thinking this is yet another new thread for Skylake. Hahaa]

'tis the great forum hypocrisy that's existed since the dark ages (early 90's).

"USE SEARCH, we covered this in a thread 12 years ago..." (God forbid you ever have to search a forum that has 'search Nazi's' abound, because, you'll just find dozens upon dozens of topics answered with 'use search')

spoken by the same people who will later shout;

"NECROPOSTING! WHY WOULD YOU DIG UP THIS OLD DISCUSSION!"

To your point; it's fascinating. I am worn out by the 20-year-long "Apple Doesn't care about..." schtick that's been going on as long as I've been following Apple. However, the market is shifting. Will we even SEE a next-generation Mac Pro? The Mac isn't going to be discontinued; that's a silly notion every time it gets brought up, but I suspect it'll continue to be further and further down the priority list at Apples R&D and engineering team.

I'm not going to jump on the doom and gloom, woe is me bandwagon. But, I'm also not surprised that the Mac line is finding it's way lower on the priority list for Apple.

Well, actually, that's usually a great way to save money. You can usually save thousands by buying the previous model year, new off the lot! I've done that a few times. Brand new "leftover" cars thousands cheaper. As a matter of fact, I bought a 2014 Mustang right when the 2015 Mustangs launched (which was a whole new complete redesign) and paid about $15,000 below sticker.

But, yeah; right now it's about like buying a 2016 model year car the day before the 2017's are announced :p

Peeps here have feverishly been waiting for Skylake - here's a subset of last year's threads alone! lol

I'd guess we better get Skylake, over Kaby Lake, because of its namesake popularity alone! Hahaa

EDIT: I, for one, would certainly be disappointed to not get a Kaby Lake computer, by now.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but I just have to laugh, looking back at this from 2016, 3 year into the future:

It's October 2016 and we STILL do not have Skylake-based Macs.

In fact, Kaby Lake (Skylake's successor) is already out on the streets, and we still do not have Skylake Macs.

The tech waiting game is always like Russian Roulette, and you usually come out losing. You would have wasted all of these years waiting, and deprived yourself of a faster computing experience.

Is the OP STILL waiting for the Skylake Macs, to this very day???

And in fact, Macs from 2013 have NOT really gotten cheaper at all. The mid-2012 MacBook Pro, ONLY a month or so ago, got reduced from $1199 to $1099. Apple doesn't really lower prices much at all, even for 4-year old tech.

I think its great that you brought this thread back. Here we are 3.7 years later and we're still waiting. Your points are very valid!

The problem is that Apple, and most other retailers are selling the last year's model for an almost original price, and in some cases maybe $100-150 off, which is not a good deal at all. Even refurb from Apple might not be a good deal after taxes.

Yep. Now is not the time to buy a Mac, that's for sure. Hopefully the rumor mill will hold true and we'll have an event this month detailing upgraded Mac's.

If you look, you can find some good deals. I got my 2015 rMBP 15 with dGPU for $2200+ from Amazon in June. Price has gone back up since then, but it was less than $100 more than a from Apple refub so I went with new.
