the present line is very good.

There's some wisdom in the revisionist theory.

Each new model improves a few times through revisions. Then they switch designs and-oops! the problem rev 1 issues appear again.

expect to see some issues with any new version.

But as I said, the last iteration of the present line is very nice (minus the time bomb graphics :D )

your move

So with these first generation 'bugs', are they from the software or the hardware also...I would think software, but then the upcoming Macbook Pro would be my first Mac notebook. If it is only a software problem (hopefully), do they get seeded and/or fixed by an update?

I would advise you to wait for the next big thing always. No use buying now when 6, 9, or 12 months down the line a better, bigger, faster thing will be out.

This is bad advice. I've done that before & you always end up waiting for that better upgrade/model/specs blah blah blah. It never ends. The waiting game is bad bad bad.

If you need a laptop for school go & get one. Its only a tool to faciliate your work. Who cares if something better comes out next month (or in 6 months)....something even better than that will ALWAYS be just around the corner. Do you even *need* a Pro for college? Perhaps the MacBook will do just fine then you don't even have to worry about the nVidia issue.

I received good advice lately, in that the person would rather have a laptop NOW than not. There is work to be done so get on with it, don't loose sight of that. If the new revision is so amazing you can't live w/o it you can always trade up. As people have stated though, I'd never buy a 1st edition of anything in the computer industry....almost guaranteed to have teething problems at best.

Very True. I'm no better at it either. I keep waiting to get the perfect 46" flat screen for the Monster Garage, and now a year went by. Mostly from confusing data, but still not much has improved that would of altered the choice. They still run 2500+.
Same with wanting second DSLR body, and 3 years later that model is still 3 grand for the body.
Doesn't make sense to wait. It just prolongs the torture, and those projects go undone.

It would be like waiting to get the perfect 10mm wrench to fix your car.
And now your walking.

My PowerBook 15" now 3 years old, only because I kept waiting to upgrade. In the End, I missed out by not jumping into the MacPro to get stuff done right with heavy imaging & video chores.

Better to wait, you can always decide what to do when the new mbps have arrived. Then you'll be able to choose between buggy 1st rev machines or the past rev time bombs... joy!

Well even if I wait and choose the new MBP Rev A - It will be covered by 12 months Apple Warranty and most likely 3 Year Apple Care, so if any faults develop due to it being a new model, it will be covered

I think I'm gonna wait since its only a couple of weeks

Don't be so sure it will be only a couple of weeks. I know some Mac sites that are now saying October. Bottonline is no one really knows except Jobs and a select few.

BTW great advice MowingDevil.

If I bought the current MBP I would regret it once I saw the new one released.

The current MBP design is 4 years old, it would be a foolish not to wait a month (or so) for a refreshing new design.

Thing is though... those sites are saying October-November. That really starts to encroach on MWSF territory and I'm thinking if they push it back that far they might just wait until MWSF to release an updated MBP.

So I think next month is more likely. If Sept. 9th turns out to be accurate then I can see the new MBP getting a release a week or two afterwards, if not as a 'one more thing' at the event.

But that might encroach on the Air... I see MWSF being all about the MB Air. So they could push the MBP update to Next July. No, wait, that is when they update the iPhone. So Maybe next September... except that is when they will update the iPods... So maybe a year from MWSF....

Don't say that...your killing me :p

I hope it's not coming in Janurary...I've already been waiting a year for a new computer...I don't think I can take 4 more months of XP and BSoDs

I honestly don't see why apple needs to update their macbook pros again in the same year. They just did in February for peet's sake! I didn't think they would update again until they released snow leopard.

Apple usually updates the MBP twice a year.

Even if its released in November I'd still wait...!

See thats just it. Some people use their macs for gaming & surfing....and looking hip at coffee shops....others use them for work & creativity.
Myself I use my Mac for composing music, demoing new songs and being creative...waiting until Nov is 3 months and I'd rather have a new Mac now to utilize than put everything on hold. Thus I put my order in last week. I look at it this way, the latest MBP is a hell of a lot better than it was a year or two ago when I first started seriously thinking about a new laptop...and the waiting game began...

It's bad buisness to behind in updates. There's new technology now, and all the other companies have updated their notebook lines. Some people don't want to do this waiting game, and they go buy another brand instead.

Not to mention the cost of a laptop with the same specs is vastly less expensive than the current MBPs.

The current MacBook Pros have among the worst price/performance ratio of any laptop in it's price range on the market right now.

The probably with Apple though is that the prices do not reflect the depreciation of the hardware inside it.

AKA, $1000 at release is still sold at $1000 6 months down the road. So with apple products it is best value to buy at new releases or upgrades

Hey guys,

I'm kinda new to this forums. Anyways i have a pretty good deal and i know that there will be some announcements come the 9th of Sep. But i can get a MBP last years model (brand new) (17", 2.4Ghz, 2Gb ram and 160 Gb HD) for $1499 (saving of 1100 if i brought it a year ago) and still get the ipod rebate as well. I think those ones have the LED screens?

Im starting school real soon but i can still wait and use the school's computers. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.
