I'm also trying to decide whether to wait or get now. I'm still undecided. I don't have an iPad at all, though, I have a 5s.

I am actually more perplexed than wait or get... And I'm hoping you'd be willing to shed some light on the matter...

I'm uncertain as to whether I want to miniRD or air. I see that you not only have a miniRD but you also have access to Air; and yet you feel compelled to acquire another Air. I would ask why. What is happening with the Air that you have access to, that makes you feel like the mini can't satisfy. What is the difference between the two? (please note, I've read a few articles differentiating the two -so I'm asking for your personal motivation/experience)

I've also been wondering, since both Air and MiniRD have same resolution -does the smaller screen of the MiniRD take a hit on touch accuracy?

I mean, is the higher density pixel more conducive to miss-clicking?

Thanks for your thoughts on the subject.

I want the Air to replace my 3. Because my wife has an air, I know that I must get one. The 3 is uncomfortable to hold and use for any extended period of time, whereas the Air is much lighter and can be held (like the rMini) for extended periods of time. That's on me. I'm getting a bit older, and I have a bass guitar that is heavy, but it's weight wasn't noticeable to me 10 years ago, but now it is.
Additionally, the speed of the Air is comparable to the mini, which is a speedy joy to use. The 3 is slow in comparison.
**im not buying the Air because the mini "can't satisfy". The mini is my main tablet, and will be after I get the Air. I like the unobtrusive size of the Mini, it can go with me ANYWHERE, any time. It slips in my back pocket. There is nothing my wife's Air can do better, hey are both magical devices.
***touch accuracy is not a problem. It is nothing I've ever noticed. It's the same for me on both tablets. I miss click about the same on both size screens, and that is not very often, it is not a factor to me.
Hope I answered all your questions.

Meh, wait.

Yeah I am. (I think)

I don't think you've quite explained why you want both the mini and the Air. You've explained why the Air is better than the 3. But there must be something that works better for you on the Air than on the mini, or you'll be fine with just the mini. For me it's that the larger screen is easier to see, plus I do miss touch targets more frequently on the mini. You say touch accuracy is not a problem for you, so is it just that it's easier to see? Or is there something else?

have you considered just getting the current iPad air at like best buy in a month or so and seeing if they will let you trade in your iPad air for when the iPad air 2 comes out?

I always buy AppleCare. When I buy anything, I keep and use it for at least a couple of years.

I don't know, what else to say. Sorry I can't satisfy your questions.i want both. It may be a bit greedy, but after raising 4 kids, feeding them and educating them, it's my turn to be spoiled a bit. Haven't you ever wanted something you don't need?
Adding a comment here...
I thought I mentioned that I use the 3 at home. It is to replace the 3.

I would say if you already have an iPad than you don't 'need' to rush out and buy one, and as they will most likely be refreshed in October or November then wait, it's only another 4 or 5 months now. You could treat yourself to an early Christmas present :)

I'm considering buying one now. I'll be busy next year and won't have much time to use it. Planning on selling my MacBook so will use it as a replacement. Not sure if I should wait as Touch ID isn't important and won't use it much for powerful gaming.

I explained it clearly enough for just about everyone to understand, but you didn't get it. Let me repeat my explanation:

Why do you think Apple products are so expensive? A good part of the reason is because they take back so many used products that they now have to sell as refurbished, because the buyer never wanted them in the first place. They just wanted something to use for free until an update came out.

And yes, you got credit towards your other car, but not the full price you paid. It loses value the instant you drive it off the lot. How can you not know that?

I guess it really IS that hard for you to understand.

You think if people didn't trade-in Apple prices are going to go down? -_- I really think you should lose the attitude. You just sound like an idiot and it's rude to other members in the forum to discuss what is best for the person who started the thread anyway.

You think that is a big reason why Apple's products are expense? They charge what the market accepts, it is called economics. They continue to sell ipads at that price even though Android and some MS tablets are cheaper.

Agreed.

The way that Apple is pushing TouchID for app purchases and authorization for apps instead of User IDs and passwords, I think that it totally makes sense to be included in the next version.

Probably true but not a very big feature. How often do you buy an App on your iPad? Probably not more that one a week at most.

I wasn't talking about a trade-in. I'll edit this, and explain one last time:

After all the explanations I've given, you still think I'm talking about a regular trade-in?

I don't get why it concerns you if someone wants to buy something now and upgrade later. It really doesn't matter. The trade-in is a trade-in regardless. lol

Buy one now:

Do you need to buy one now? No.
Do you WANT to buy one now? Yes.

Buy one later:

Do you need to buy one later? Yes.
Do you WANT to buy one later? No.

It all depends on if you think TouchID is worth it, considering it's pretty much the only thing they're adding in the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

If you want it buy it, if you can wait then wait. Ultimately your gonna be living with the decision not us, so do whatever you can live with and not get buyer's remorse over.

Just buy everything always, and have nonstop buyers remorse, and sell everything every time something new comes out. You will maximize your trade-in value, and keep getting new stuff.

Help me decide when I should buy an iPad Air for myself. I have an iPad rMini and I have it with me 24/7's but I want to buy an iPad Air to use when I'm at home. My wife has an Air so I know how much I need this addition.
So my question is whether I should buy the current iPad Air or wait for the iPad Air 2.
I have a three, and I thought it would tie me over but it is so slow that I sometimes think it is stuck when it's trying to load things and to me, it is too heavy to hold for any length of time comfortably. That 1/2 lb really makes a difference.
Thie decision to buy one was made a couple of months ago so I've already been waiting and I'm starting to get tired of waiting. Do you think the new iPad Air 2 will be worth the wait?

At this point you might as well just wait. If they come out with a second version of the Air the current Air’s price will be reduced. If they decided to replace the current version with a second version, you can still get the original Air from 3rd party retailers (Target, Best Buy, Walmart, MacMall ect). When you see what features will be included with the second version you can battle between the pros and cons and decided which would be better for your needs. Ultimately, the decision will come down to price over features? It is only a few months away. You have waited this long, another 3 months or so shouldn’t be too long of a wait. You have an rMini and that is an outstanding device that should hold you over.

Yessum, I'm agreeing which you. It won't be long now, and actually I'm focusing my attention on the next iteration of iPhone. My 5 is feeling old and although my contract isn't up till December, I think I'm going to spring for an unlocked 4.7 in Sept or whenever the come out.. You are right about my rMini being more than ample for my needs. I will however get an Air in November, but whether or not I get the Air 2 or the original remains to be seen.

Well..... I could not wait. However, I do have a plan. I just bought a used 32gb Air. I'm pretty sure that in November, if the newer model has enough wow appeal, I'll simply sell this one and get the newer model.

Yeah, you could do that. I bet you end up just keeping your current Air since it's such a good tablet. I'll be keeping mine for a looooong time. :D

You're probably right. There will have to be a lot of WOW factor to actually follow through with selling this one and getting a new one.

No need for me to upgrade my Air either. Touch ID is not a feature I need or use and the A7 is plenty fast. I'll probably wait for 2 updates on the Air before I upgrade.

I would buy a refurbished iPad Air now personally. The only reason I haven't is that I am undecided if I would get better use out of a 2in1 ultrabook instead.

So much for waiting....

I could not stand it any longer, and when I bumped into a couple of extra bucks, I pulled the trigger.
I have always bought new devices mainly so I could get AppleCare but Apple surprise me with this little story:
On June 29 I bought a used Verizon 32gb iPad Air from eBay. It was $300 less money and if I would've purchased one new. The seller claimed he purchased it on May 15. When I received it, it was pristine and I immediately called Apple, JustAsk. So I did, I asked them if I could purchase AppleCare and to my surprise and delight they said yes. Today, I just received a paper receipt for that purchase in snail mail. I'm a little surprised that AppleCare did not start from the date of my purchase, but from the original sale date on May 15. Not that big a deal but six weeks is six weeks.
I'm really surprised they let me purchase AppleCare after-the-fact like that. I do have AppleCare already purchased from them on the other two iPads we own so, I guess they know me?
Now I have to fret over whether I should upgrade or not LOL. Having AppleCare with the device should help sell it for more money.

My typical rule about products that have a yearly refresh cycle is that if the new product is less than 4 months away I'll hold off, and if it's between 4-6 months away I'll buy used.

Since the new iPads are likely about 5 months away, you did exactly what I would have done by buying a used one.

Also, I'm pretty sure most of the improvements on the new Air will be under the hood (plus TouchID) so I don't expect it to be that drastic of an improvement.

I have an iPad 3, my husband has an iPad air. I now hate how heavy mine is and really it's uncomfortable to hold when I watch TV shows and movies. I always have to find some way to prop it up. And yes it seems so slow compared to his iPad and my iPhone 5S.

He wants an iPad mini to take to work and use as his traveling iPad.

We have both decided to wait for the refresh that should occur sometime this fall.

ETA: Sigh. I know I should read the WHOLE way through a thread before responding. Congratulations on your purchase.
