I am looking for a phone to hold me over until the next Gen of iPhone come out this fall. Going to buy used since I will only use this phone for 8 months.

Narrowed it down to the 64 GB 8 plus (around $650) and the 128gb 7 plus (just under $500).

64gb is enough space for me so the extra room on the 7+ isn't that much of a benefit.

For those prices, which phone would you buy? Is the speed difference worth the difference in price?

Do you have a Qi wirless charger and actively use it (or have access to one)? If the answer is yes, then the 8+, otherwise, save moolah and go with the 7+.

I actually bought one on Amazon the other day because it was on sale for $15, but can easily send it back for a refund. Wireless charging seems nice but I can go 8 more months without it.

I think speed, better reception (is there any difference?) and battery life are the biggest factors for me (less degradation in used 8 plus due to less charging cycles)

In respect to reception and battery life, you won't see significant changes between the 8+ and 7+. After all, if you live in a bad reception area, it's not your phone's fault.

As per speed... well, that depends how important speed is to you. I for one, would save $$ and use that saved $$ for a better device next year.

I have an 8 Plus (and had a regular 7) and I'd say go with the 7 Plus. If it's just to hold you over until the fall, the 7 will be MORE than fine, and you won't have shelled out as much cash.

i just replaced my iPhone 5.0 a Craigslist $450.00 red iPhone 7 with an intel modem chip. Serious there is not a lot of differences in any of these phones. An incremental increase in processing power will even less change your day to day experience.

apple still sells the iPhone 7 as a retail item. If i were to buy retail (the iphone7 is $700 retail) i would buy an iPhone 8.

my craigslist purchase went w/o a hitch
-met her at the local apple store
-the store was helpful actually
-i got the Craigslist phone for $450 cash only after i verified it.

I like my 8 plus a lot, but I’d much rather have a metal back like on the 7+, since I don’t care about wireless charging.

Keep in mind you’ll pay more for the 8 plus now, but you’ll also be able to sell it for more in September when the new phones come out.

You’ll pay an extra $150 now, but you’ll get some of that back when you sell it. The difference is probably around $100 or so. Is it worth it to you to spend what equates to an extra $12 per month to get the superior 8 plus? That’s what I would do to be honest.

I would purchase the 7+. Being that both phones are very similar in terms of capabilities and iPhone 8 has some added features, but they are very much the same phone. And since you are going to have this iPhone for a short term, I don't think it's going to matter to you one way or the other about the minuscule differences for features.

With the 8+, you receive True tone display, wireless charging, the stereo speakers are 25% louder over the iPhone 7, Added camera enhancements.

To me, that's not worth the $150 price difference for the iPhone 8 Plus.

I just bought a 7+ from the Apple refurb store and couldn't be happier. I could have bought an 8+ but it was $260 more for a new one (no refurbs available yet) and I didn't see the point. In my opinion, the 8+ is just an incremental upgrade anyway. My 7+ is fast, takes wonderful pictures, and even does 4K video. I also seem to be getting several days use out of the battery before I have to charge it, which is way longer than I ever got out of my old i6. Go with the 7+. It's a good phone. And you can't go wrong buying direct from Apple. Their refurb phones are as close to brand new as you're going to get..new case and new battery and one-year warranty on the whole thing.
