Exactly. Paying a lot of money for a ton of local storage on a mobile device doesn't make a lot of sense considering I live in an area with plenty of connectivity and cloud access. But to each their own. Some like the OP have spotty connections at best. So there are options for just about everyone.

Yup! I don't even want to pay expensive plans for mobile data. I download everything to my phone so I would have it handy when I leave wifi area. People who stream a lot and deal with cloud most all the time should get the 64gb. Streaming takes a lot of data so I refrain from doing so. I have 50gb of cloud storage that i use for backups and some photos and thats $1.

I know this is a stupid question but does getting more storage make the phone faster compared to the 64 gig?

it is proven from even a pc with large storage moves faster than smaller storages so it is true a 512gb is faster than a 64gb and a 256gb. The file transfer is even faster

That sucks now I wish I had gotten the 256 rather then 64 😭

Is that consistent with later model iPhones though? The article states the difference is due to the storage used in the iPhone 7 models.

That's something that you will have to look into but you shouldn't notice a difference in day to day usage

As storage technology changes, so does the iPhone and iPad performance. For example, iPhone 11 Pro storage performance is twice as fast as my iPhone 8 Plus. Certainly, both of them have better performance than the iPhone 7.

Pathmark software maintains an up to date storage performance list for all of the Apple and other devices, like Android.

Agree with TopherMan12, benchmark is one thing, perceived performance is an other....

I feel that getting a 64gb iPhone is a more expensive way to go in my opinion. I live in the Bahamas where mobile plans are too expensive ($140 a month unlimited). For me, getting a 64gb phone is very expensive in the long run so I got a 256gb. I download all my music, videos and photos to my phone. I also have games I play and download series on to go to watch. For me to get a 64gb, I would be highly inconvenience. As of now, some people have issues looking through photos and videos they have stored in the cloud. I have not even taken into account that people pay apple $2.99 a month for 200gb storage in cloud as well which is about $36 a year. It is best to bite the bullet and get a 256gb iPhone or a 512gb which is cheaper i the long run because streaming isn't always better especially when you can download everything and play with no interruptions.

I got a 256GB XS Max but also bought the 200GB iCloud, lol!

But yeah, I absolutely agree, 64GB makes no sense, it has not made sense for a number of years now. At least for me. :)

I don’t see a point in wasting money and getting the 256gb variant. I still have over 40 gb left on the 11 Pro, so the 64gb model is perfect for me. I have unlimited data, use Apple Music, and iCloud storage, so there’s that.

Money isn't wasted to be honest. I can go months without a data plan on a 256gb phone. Just use WiFi only for my Apple Music

it is't a waste if you need the storage.

I have 105GB left of 256GB as I store everything on it.

I'm actually having trouble recording video (always 4k/60) on my iPhone 11 PM right now, even though I've only used about 50 GB of 64GB (iCloud for everything). Pretty disappointing as I should have 14 GB to play with. Anyone else had issues?

I got 256 for my 11 Pro ... with the potential of 3 cameras going at once ... having a bit of elbow room for life events before I have to offload I felt was worth it.

dont upgrade the phone if u have all ready 64 gb variantes because 64gb is enough ..

Like OP I’ve been buying bigger storage for years and keeping offline media available. What I’ve saved on my monthly plan is significant. The amount of savings will depend on country.

64gb has always been plenty for my personal needs (39gb free space) but, I would definitely prefer 128gb storage option.. The jump from 64gb to 256gb is just too much in my opinion, Apple should drop the 64gb base option and offer 128gb or at least give 25gb free iCloud storage instead of 5gb if they want to continue using 64gb as base storage.

In the last 5 years I’ve purchased 2 phones. One was $100 storage upgrade and the other was free as part of a carrier promotion. In order to stream my monthly usage I would have needed to an addition spend $20/month = $1,200 over 5 years. Or $1,100 more. Even then it wouldn’t have covered my usage some months.

I realize some people may have cheaper access to unlimited data. Or they don’t stream video or music. What I don’t understand is people who don’t get the other approach as write it off as ridiculous.
