What do you store on your iCloud? My understanding is that you can only store pics/vids and back ups .

You can store music as well. Instead of streaming everything, just store them and it is better for frequent travelers who do not want to purchase wifi

In the last 5 years I’ve purchased 2 phones. One was $100 storage upgrade and the other was free as part of a carrier promotion. In order to stream my monthly usage I would have needed to an addition spend $20/month = $1,200 over 5 years. Or $1,100 more. Even then it wouldn’t have covered my usage some months.

I realize some people may have cheaper access to unlimited data. Or they don’t stream video or music. What I don’t understand is people who don’t get the other approach as write it off as ridiculous.

This is exactly what I am saying. I know people such as myself use only wifi and never use a data plan. They just add everything to phone storage and that's one of the reasons people like sd cards on phones

But when you store music on iCloud don’t you need wifi if you don’t have a data plan? For travellers to store music it would have to be stored on the device otherwise you can’t hear your music if your on a plane let’s say

that is what i am saying! people always on the move and don't want to use data much need that storage as well

I have had my 11Pro Max /256 for a week and already have 70 gigs on it, off course between 50 and 60 gigs was put on when I swapped my 8 Plus /256 so may be I should have got a 512 gig. lol.

Anything, if you have a Mac it’s a bit easier because of Finder, but you can use the Files app on iPhone to manage documents in your iCloud Drive folder.

I mainly have photos and videos but also some documents that I want to have across all my devices.

what is taking up the space?

Its sooo personal.

Folks in mountainous/forest/hill based areas will probably appreciate more storage for music, etc as with each corner or hill you may have reception one second and the next, none. I fall in this bucket. I typically download most of my music and cache maps offline. With no cloud storage for photos, having the extra space comes in handy (256 GB) especially if I am lazy to offload pictures from prior life events for example.

If you live in the city and rarely venture off established roads, you will probably be okay with minimal storage leveraging cloud based storage as needed.

I stream my music and do not watch movies on the phone. I have unlimited data in my country, in the whole of Europe and the US included in my subscription. I'd even have 5G already, if my phone had the right antennas.
I have a fair amount of pictures, which doesn't actually take that much space at all (10 gb for all pics from the last 12 months, which I synchronised to the phone through iTunes from the Photos library).
I have some lossless albums, which do not take up that much storage either.
My phone has 512 gb storage, which will probably never be of any actual use to me. 128 would have been perfect for my profile.

it depends on personal usage.
For me the sweet spot is 128 Gb (so I had to buy a 256 Gb), but for my wife 64 Gb are more than enough (I actually bought a 128 Gb XR for her, but just because the price difference was very thin).
