I've not yet managed to get my CPU above about 70 ;)
Although I don't do any video editing or 3D modelling so :)

Also on the matter of the RAM, max out for sure.
I had 2GB of compatible RAM in my old laptop and switched it to the MacBook and as of now I have 16MB free :/
This could probably be assigned to the massive memory usage of Safari but I was still surprised just quite how much OS X uses

I only managed to hit 75c by "stress-testing", i.e. running "yes > /dev/null" in two Terminal windows. I figured with the electronics bathtub curve and I'm allowed a one-to-one swap within the first seven days, I might as well max out my new BlackBook to see if it will hold :)

According to FedEx tracking, my RAM should arrive tomorrow! Arrgh, can't wait for it to arrive!

Nice job on your blackbook!

I got mine last Wednesday, Well a macbook in white, and I love it to bits! Only thing with mine is that it gets very hot, I have the iStat menubar and often the temperature is 70-80! Anyone think it's defect? It gets really noisy and it gets really hot when i'm not even doing much.

Also, Get MacSaber! Soooo much fun. :D

I have the 2.0 and atm its running at 56ºC with general iTunes, web and IM.
What sort of things are you running?
Also, I wouldn't recomend MacSabre, the risk to damaging the hard drive is pretty high if you ask me, I'd leave it if I were you ;)
SeisMac's good fun though, takes the info from the SMS and displays it as a seismograph read out

Ordered my macbook yesterday afternoon! However they say it will be delivered on the 12th of December, thats an appalling delivery time!!

still very hyped about it yaayyy :D

Yay! Upgraded my BlackBook to 4gigs of RAM! It's gonna be fun times now :D
Maybe I could build an 'aquarium' like so: http://xkcd.com/350/

Ehem! I'm loving my BlackBook abit too much right now to treat it that way... Though I fear if I get SeisMac, I'll go paranoid with excess vibrations ;)

> tianuk3, Stolencheese and others who are getting/just got your MacBooks
Congrats and I hope you enjoy your new Macs!

Thanks guys for the software suggestions!

What (un-)archiving do you guys suggest? I mainly have to deal with zip, gzip, tar, bzip2, 7-zip and the occasional rar archives. Used to use 7-zip on Windows, but there is only a commandline version on the Mac.

Any ideas?

The Unarchiver.

It works amazing. Only thing it isn't that great with is passworded .rar's. For that I use UnRarX. The nice thing about these 2 apps is that they're both free and don't take up much space.
