Not sure anyone would go through all the trouble to make $50, specially dealing with CL idiots so i'm betting its a scam. My advice, which i know you didn't ask for, WAIT, the damn phone will be available soon.

Get something you could return if needed. Making a $1k mistake could really make a man go nuts.

So one other question... you say $50 above the price. Do you live where there's no sales tax or something? Otherwise how is the seller not losing money at $50 over price?

Weird. Mine definitely had tabs.
FWIW, I'm not disputing what you saw, just stating what I perceived. I'll look and see if I've emptied that trash can yet when I get home. Now you have me curious. I always just cut the plastic around the box bottom seam so it's possible I completely missed it.

I agree but if I can put the sim in from att in there - and I have a recipet- no risk right?

There is always risk as already mentioned. The phone could be reported stolen after you buy and other things.
If he never registers the phone how is that possible? If I've got it activated on att he can't report it stolen right?

I guess the only concern i'd have is being able to claim warranty if needed but then again thats a worse case scenario.

If you're really willing, dont listen to anyone and just go but do go with a couple friends because i have personally heard from people i know getting robbed. Specially since you'll obviously have $1k cash.

A lot of doubters here. Your best bet is to meet at the Wireless store (i am asuming AT&T) and do it there. Make sure they see you bought it and its connected without issue.

Heard multiple stories of people having blacklisted phones even months after purchase. The seller can report the phone as stolen because the IMEI is under that persons name.

Just be careful. Always a risk buying outside of Apple/Retail stores

OPEN THE F***ING BOX!

Seriously though, make sure you open it. These iPhone plastics are easy to reseal, take a look at mine that I simply re stuck back together after setting my phone up...

If you don't open the phone, you will get a surprise when you get home...

It's craigs list and the guy is within his 14 day return period so if he's not making money why is HE going through the hassles and risk of getting robbed instead of returning it?

Only scenario I can see where the seller makes money is if they used an upgrade, paid the 2yr price (~$400), and is now selling for a profit.

Yeah, that worked in the past but I believe there are no longer any 2 year subsidized discounts on Verizon and this guy supposedly paid full price.

The plastic film surrounding the box on my iphone7 ordered from AT&T and delivered to my door sure looked and felt and acted like shrinkwrap. Fairly substantial, but shrinkwrap. Not at all what you described.

From all the unboxing videos I have seen the shrink wrap is different now. It pulls off with a tab

Again, just noting what I saw. Maybe I completely missed the tab.

BTW, if there is a tab than (a) there's no penalty to seller for buyer to open it up and examine the phone, and (b) even easier for seller to swap out contents.
