I'm finishing up year one on my Verizon contract. If I goto apple.com and try to buy another iPhone for that line, the unsubsidized price is my only option.

When the next iPhone comes out, that's what I'll do. Preorder on apple.com for full price this year. Preorder for the subsidized price next year. That's what you're trying to do, no?

Yes! Thanks. I would have known this if Verizon log in actually work for me in the Apple Store App, I guess I need to get that solved.

Thanks.

For those wondering - I said it in the opening post - I am buying unlocked because it's the cheapest way to get an iPhone new every year. I save my subsidy for next year. Please read the post i linked in OP if you don't agree. It walks through it.

Thanks all.

when i tried to buy an iphone 5 for full price, i was told they were only allowed to sell subsidized phones on contract. this was a corporate store. i had to go to an apple store to buy a phone outright.

Goof info. I was afraid of that. I will aim to pre order from Apple. Thanks.

I preordered my 5 last year from Verizon's website. There was an option to pay full price without it renewing your contract or affecting your plan. I will be doing the same this year.

For iPhone 5, I didn't see the full price preorder option on Apple.com. Last year, I bought directly through Verizon online. Does anyone know how last year's Verizon in-store sales went?

I'd prefer to have iPhone 5S on 9/20 at 8 AM, but worry that Apple Retail will be unable to sell Verizon 5S at full retail / month-to-month pricing. I'd guess that Verizon in-store will be the only 9/20 at 8 AM option for those 5S buyers who want to keep unlimited data by purchasing full retail price / month-to-month.

I just tried purchasing 5c on Apple.com and the full retail / month to month / no contract price was *NOT* available.

I checked Verizon.com, and the 5c was available for purchase at full retail / month to month / no contract price.

As much as I'd like to wait in line and have 5s the morning of 9/20, I fear Apple Retail won't be able to sell it at full price; moreover, I fear that Verizon Corporate Store stock will be scarce. We'll see in the days ahead.

Good luck, everyone.

I don't want a 5C, but just looked at the apple store app to see what it will be like getting a 5S.

Looks like it does not work if you click "upgrade your iPhone", but it DOES work if you click "buy 5C" and then walk through process and click "replace this iPhone". Doing that I got to a screen for $549 to purchase the 5C.

I clicked 5C - pick color and size - continue - replace this iPhone - enter VZ info - continue - add to cart.

It has a 5C full price in my cart and says Check Out, so it looks like it would work if I actually wanted to.

On Apple.com, "Replace a phone on my account with a new iPhone." only shows the 5c $99 option.

On the Apple Store app, "Replace this iPhone" only shows the 5c $99 (and 32GB $199) option.

[I have a nationwide loyalty family share 550 plan with no texting and three unlimited data lines that I need to keep.]

First step is clicking "iPhone 5c" in the app, the big color picture at top. Not, "upgrade your iPhone". It works for me on Verizon.

Just making sure you got that first step. Sorry if I'm retesting something you already knew.
