You've already decided to be a scumbag human being,

lolwut? He's a scumbag because he's buying a phone and returning it,

Thanks for pushing up the price for all of us decent human beings.

lolwut?? For the last ~4 years, a new, current-gen iPhone has been priced at $199, $299, and $399... Explain how he's "pushing up the price for all of us"

In any case, it's probably immoral at best.

lolwut??? It's immoral to return products now? lol wtf

the whole point of them letting you return it is whether or not you like the product. Just because the product has no defect doesn't mean you can't return it. It just might not be something you prefer.

Are you aware what the return policy is ?

The Op whole intent is to use the phone till the 5s comes out. He has no intent on keeping it. Hope he breaks it.

OP is not going about this in good faith. That is the difference.

Granted, it's exploiting the system to some extent but if using a product for a few weeks with the intent to return it is the worst thing you people have ever done, you must be Saints!

Some of these reactions make it sound like he's planning to purchase a stolen phone or even just steal one himself. In the end, he returns the phone which, if he's nor careless with it (and given the circumstances, he'll probably be EXTRA careful), will be indistinguishable from a new product, and someone gets to buy it at a discounted price as a refurb.

Why not just wait and buy the 5S and if you don't like it then return it?

You said you're getting the 5 to try out the iphone and see if you'd like it enough to buy the 5S. Might as well buy the 5S and if you don't like it then return it, but if you do like it then you can just keep it and not have to return a phone and buy another one a few weeks later.

And Apple pays for the price difference. That's the lame part of this plan. It's fraud, really.

Apple makes a profit in the end, even on the refurbs. It's not fraud at all since their return policy is no questions asked so long as the device is still in new condition. It's not like he's claiming that it's defective and it will be scrapped or something.

From reading this thread consumer laws must be very different in the US from the UK.

Over here unless it's specifically part of the sale offer for example, "Try Before You Buy" or, "If you don't like it after X days you get your money back" you can't just return it because you don't like it.

Seriously? You guys are being robbed by banks and taxes everyday and I hear no one complaining about that.

But when someone buys a phone without the intend of keeping it hes the biggest scumbag on earth. You guys have your priorities wrong. Besides it wouldn't make a difference to Apple anyway. Once I had to return my new iphone to Apple. I put the iphone in the empty box and just kept all the accessories. You know what? They didn't care. They just gave me a brand new iphone sealed in box with all the accessories. So now I got two lightning cables for the price of 1

I did it a few months ago with 2 x MBPr refurbs, during the 14 days saw a retail store deal online for 10% off and 18 months interest free. Got 2 x brand new 2103 models for same price as 2012 refurbs.
When i confessed on here boy did i get shot down in flames from the self righteous, ancy pansy, politically correct brigade:)

Why not i own 10k plus worth of Apple products.

Here's the thread, even had someone send me a personal message saying the world would be better off without me lol. Lucky i was not mentally unstable.

Interesting thread.

Some of you, with more than half a brain, are correct in stating its wrong what the OP advocates. The others don't give a darn, and this worries me about how our society (Lack of thinking process) has become. God help use :(

Well, what worries me about society are things like gun violence, global warming, racism and homophobia, but I guess people taking advantage of retailer's return policies is up there too.

We are so close to seeing the 5S unveiled that it's kind of pointless to do something like this. The OP could always test it out at the Apple store.

Let's just jump straight to Godwin's Law and get this over with: so, it's OK to steal from Apple just so long as you don't invade Poland, right?

There. If you're going to be offensive, do it properly.

I'm just saying that I think people are blowing this way out of proportion from an ethical standpoint. Is it a nice thing to do? No, not really. Does it make you an immoral scumbag of a human being? I don't think so.

I don't get why people are being so judgmental and acting like they've never done anything morally questionable in their entire lives. You know, "judge not lest ye be judged", "let he who is without sin cast the first stone..." and all that.

Oh, I get what you're saying, but you know how the Internet is. :)

People need to know what they're talking about before they run their mouths. The whole purpose of being allowed to return the phone within one month after buying it is so you can try it out and see if you like it. You return it, get your full money back, no questions asked. If Apple didn't want people to try out their phones before being committed to them, they would say no returns.

It's not a matter of what you can get away with, it's a sense of decency. As for people "running their mouths", really? It's a forum!

But I think that Jimbo is saying that he thinks this is a legitimate use of the policy. No one would bat an eye it the OP said he was going to buy the 5s, try it for a few weeks, and return it if he doesn't like it. The OP's proposal is just to do exactly that using the 5 as a stand in because he apparently isn't patient enough to wait.

it sounds risky to be honest. let's say you buy the 5 and a couple weeks later you drop the phone and the screen cracks. now what? you're stuck with a phone you can't possibly return (apple's return policy is good, but not that good), and a new one is coming out within a couple weeks.
