Plenty of people have reported issues with their Mac mini beachballing for no apparent reason, even when virtually new. I've seen it myself on my father-in-law's 2007 model. Maybe it's no longer a problem with the 2009 minis, but it certainly happens with some older ones, so perhaps SL will fix it for them.

Like I said, it happens on *some* older machines, not all of them. It's possible that those that have the standard minimum RAM are more prone to it, though.
Could be. 😉 Lynx and Cougar are the names Apple is supposed to have already registered. I can't see them ever naming an OS Lion, which for a big cat is relatively lazy, bloated, and slow. 😀
