Early 2011 MBP's are amazing, very fast and I'd buy one. But I can wait, so if you can wait also - then why not! I'm sure there will be a mid / late 2011 MBP refresh (judging by previous release cycle).

I'd really like a higher resolution panel on the 13" MBP but I'll be OK with the 1280x800 I guess. Oops went off topic...

I'd look more for a Q1 2012 release. The Ivy Bridge chips that will be in the new MBP will be debuted at CES 2012, just like Sandy Bridge was debuted at CES this year. Personally, I think computers are so fast now that yearly updates are plenty for most users. The majority of users don't even use the computers they currently have to their full potential.

I was also wanting a higher resolution on the 2011 13"! But now that I actually have one, I really love it. Low resolution or not! :D

Hey guys, I'm really looking to get a new MBP 15" 2.2 this summer, with (hopefully) the B2S promo. I saw rumors about the upcoming MBP in late 2011 or early 2012, but with the iPod touch promo, and since I start Uni at the end of summer, getting the current model this summer would be perfect.

My question is, do you think I make a mistake by doing so? To all who bought the current february version, how do you like it?

Lovin' mine.

I originally ended up with the original Feb release, with the overheating problem and worse keyboard (the backlighting problem). With 10.6.6 preinstalled.

I exchanged it for another. This replacement had 10.6.7, under-load CPU temps were much better, and the keyboard backlight issue wasn't as pronounced. It had to have been made after the overheating problem was found and fixed.

Indeed, my 2011 MBP runs cooler under heavy load than my 2009 17" model (89C vs 99C respectively).

If you need a laptop now, go get one AND with AppleCare warranty. Newer and better always come along and these 2011 models are rather fantastic, especially after Apple put out 10.6.7...
