I think I'm going to wait until snow leopard is released before buying the mac pros. I have a feeling something in the lineup will change and maybe the price as well.

So, based upon the Apple and the Mac Pro history of pricing, you are predicting an increase in Mac Pro pricing?:D

AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa it will be here within 5 hours.... Just called TNT and it is being deliverd during the day!!!!

Congrats. Hope everything is fine then.

I´m nearer to buy a 2.66 quad with 6GB RAM and a WD VR, instead of the 2.93.
Delivery time in Germany is long. Will see, what my dealer says this afternoon.

When delivery will be weeks, I would wait for Snow Leo.

He also still has some 2.8 8-core, but I don´t no the prices yet.
No business sales in Germany at all. Same price than it has been before Nehalem.
Cheek, isn´t it?!

The strange thing about the argument for SL making the octo's so uber, is that noone mentions the fact that quads will benefit to exactly the same extent.

So lets say everyone's dreams come true and SL doubles performance of the octo's ... ermm well the quad's performance will surely double too?

So waiting for SL seems like a none-argument to me... you choose what you can reasonably afford and everyone reaps the same benefit (or lack of benefit) when SL launches. I think realistically anyone hoping for anything more than a 10-30% average performance increase from SL is insane, but I have been wrong before..... many, many, MANY times :D

Anyway OP: I can feel your excitement :) I must have refreshed the TNT delivery page a couple of thousand times in the week before it was delivered :)

Hard call but I would pick the 2,66 instead of the 2,8.

Well I found the link yesterday so I am only up to about 100 refreashs ;)

But its only 2 hours till this day is over so now I am starting to think that they may not be able to get it to me today.....

To me either - it´s an excuse for not being able to decide right now :D

Would be fine, if it will be like that at all ;)

Maybe one more time

Same would I - as long as the price for the older octo isn´t overwhelming.

IT IS HERE!! This is my final post with my old PowerMac! See ya on the other side! ;)

Not that I agree with the "waiters," but this argument seems faulty. It seems the octa could benefit more than the quad.

In theory, SL could improve performance several ways. First, it may improve performance-per-core, e.g., by being pure 64-bit. So, each core may be 10% faster. In that case, quad and octo go up in performance by like percentages.

Second, it may improve parallel processing. But this improvement need not be linear with the number of cores. For example, 2 cores may be twice as good as 1 core, but 4 cores may be 8x as good, and 8 cores may be 64x as good. This type of non-linear improvement is quite typical in computer science. For example, adding a CPU register may be a 4% improvement, but adding 4 may speed things up by 25%. In the case of parallelization, one reason having more cores may be a non-linear improvement is that it reduces the likelihood of no-available-resource by a non-linear amount.

Back now in a new form he he

I am amazed at how quiet this monster is! Just wanted to drop a line before I install the rest of the programs ;)

Ooo by the way I am in love so I got to ditch my girlfriend... I am sure she will understand he he

How cool is that. I mean monster part, not girl part really haha.

Tell us you first thoughts when you install and use your programs. Can't wait mine to come but I have to wait another 12-14 days until it is delivered cause it is cto.

And MasterM6, thi thread is worthless without pics :p

You bought a PowerMac ??? All this talk of intel machines and then you go and get an ancient PPC machine! Heh!

:D

He's replacing his girlfriend and his PowerMac with a new Intel machine. All I can say is "when you lay your hand on the power supply of the new Intel machine, will you get the same feeling as when you lay your hand on your now ex-girlfriend's power supply?" ;)

In Germany the 8-core are in stock, whereas you have to wait for the quad - produced by order.
I would have to wait for a 2.66 about 10-12 days. The 2.93 would be here in 14-18 days.

Kind of :D But sometimes new things are feeling better ;)

Well the thread may be wothless but this machine sure as hell isnt! I am guessing you want some numbers. I am still loading over my pictures (110Gb) so I havent tried out lightroom yet.

Photoshop takes 2 sec to start. If PS is open it takes 4 sec to open a 250Mb PSD file. If PS isnt open it takes 8 sec. I like those numbers he he

My GF said it was ok if I sleept next to the computer tonight ;) It was ok ha ha ha

Those times are just stunning ... wow ... can't wait my god :)))

I don't think you will sleep tonight that is the trick.

Very similar, they said 14 days all together. I ordered mine in Austria since in Slovenia they won't be avaible for another month probably and then there is wait for cto and you have it huh... Just too long. They still don't have new iMacs and I have it for more then 2 weeks already @ home cause I drove up to Graz to pick it up :).

Okej my wet dream just came and dang it was good! :)

All software one the mac side is installed and confg now. Over to the windows part....

I am abit stuck here... I installed Vista but got to find a USB keyboard to be able to setup an account. But how do I switch back to OSx? I cant get the option key to respons when I reboot so I cant pick OS... I am using the new wireless keyboard.

Right now I am using my iPhone to write this..

Does anyone know?

I thought that was taken care of by the Boot Camp utilities. It should have a driver (map set?) for the Apple keyboard. no? Read the docs.

To get back to OS X you have to reboot is all I know. If it won't let you select boot drives, remove the Windoze drive temporarily.

A lot of talk on the 2.93 quad vs the 2.26 octo. My question on here would be, is the baseline $2300(edu) 2.66 Quad be sufficient for Graphic Design work that doesn't involve too much 3D. I'm a design student about to enter my last year of college and want to get a Mac Pro for my Capestone. I want this mac pro to last me a good 4-5 years as i enter the design world. Coming from a MBP+MB setup i would expect tremendous results from what I'm seeing now anyway.

yep

Ideally the Mac Pro would replace my wonderful 2.0GHz MBP. Although I do a lot of design work that doesnt require that much power, I want to have a system that can take heavy use for a good 4-5 years. My MBP has slowly been dying on me already after 3 years this past month.
