Would be funny if the name matched the receipt because he stole the guys wallet at the same time he stole the Mac:D

Like said above selling an $1800 Mac for $1400 is more believable, but not at half price less than a week old.

He may have robbed several greedy mac buyers buy now with this scam sounding story.

Remember the scams Escalate this time of year.

OP probably got robbed and is crying now.

OP here... met the guy, seemed genuine. Messed with the laptop for a while. He had all the manuals, the plastic cover wrap thing that comes on the macbooks, original charger still brand new in the little packaging. He just didn't have the box.

Even showed me the receipt from Apple again. I joked saying $1000 was ridiculous and he laughed saying the only real offers he was getting from Craigslist was $800-$900 or PS4s/XB1s with a little cash on top and that I was the only real one offering him straight cash.

Everything on the rMBP checked out... no water damage. He let me test it out for 30 minutes... so I just surfed the web, watched videos, tested everything out to make sure there were no freezing issues, made sure it was on the latest firmware, etc...

I think I just got a really good deal everyone. (knock on wood?) :D

Def a great deal.. congrats. I have picked up a bunch of stuff off CL for cheap, just have to be wise.

I hope it works out fine, but that deal makes no sense. There is absolutely no reason in your suggested circumstance why he couldn't have simply returned it. Even a 15% restocking fee would have been less expensive.

Gotta enjoy those folks who despite red flags galore plow full steam ahead.

I think the OP did appropriate diligence here. I don't see red flags other than the low price, but stuff happens.

I'm inclined to agree. I'll also add that I have 3 Macs for sale up on Craigslist right now, and I've never gotten less interest (in years and years of doing this) than I have the past few weeks. I think it's just a horrible time for the used Mac market, probably due to (a) holiday sales, (b) used stuff not being great for gifts, and (c) gift purchases reducing people's disposable/expendable income.
