Yea I did too. An extra $5 to Apple at this point seems meaningless. Do love the gestures!

Need a swipe back and forth in Safari.

Multitasking gesture switching on the iPad totally rocks! It's so worth $5. It's the way it should have been done from the beginning.

Plus, the XCode app rocks as well. Win win....

Using Xcode 3 instead of paying for 4, or just enabling gestures?

The con to downloading Xcode 4 is you've flushed a fiver.

It's a 4gig download and takes up 10gig of space, so that's a potential con.

Some apps with their own 4+ finger gestures may not work properly.

Anyone know if restoring a new iPad from a backup of a previous one with gestures enabled, will lead to the new ipad having gestures enabled? Or will you need to developerise the new machine separately?

Wait, 10g on the Mac or iPad?

How much space does it use non the iPad? Is this something that would have to be reinstalled after iOS updates?

5 finger pinch to home

4 finger swipe up to app switcher

4 finger swipe left or right to switch open apps

How is this better than this?

1 button push to home
2 button push to app switcher
2 button push and select app to switch open apps

What i noticed is that i woukd intuitively swipe to the right to see the app i had just been in. After all, youd have the last read 'page' to the left of your current.

Apple, however, decided to make us swipe left :/

Haha I found myself doing the same. I have to think of the order of apps in the multitasking bar to remember to swipe to the left.

Well technically, Apple hasn't decided to make us do anything when it comes to these gestures (yet anyway).

So until they release it in a consumer iOS-update, we can't really complain.

it's for people that find it sooooooo strenuous and archaic to depress a single physical button to achieve those certain tasks.

Do you never cmd+tab / alt+tab?

Thats pretty much the equivalent of the side swipe.
Going back and forth between two apps with a single swipe.

Is there a way in Xcode to un-developerize an iPad to get rid of the provisioning profile and function of the multitasking gestures?

So worth it

I paid the $5 for the gestures and it's is SO worth it :D

It is so cool to be able to change between apps or use 4 fingers to go to the home screen.

We are only talking about 5 bucks, it's only a beer ;). Ohh no I just missed out on a beer

I think your work flow is a lot smoother and feels less interrupted than needing to use the home button. Particularly the four finger swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar. It feels very nature, like lifting the screen up.

Actually they are really useful when you are constantly switching between apps. Like if you have to copy a bunch of files from one app to another:
Before:
1. Open app 1
2. Open in...
3. Double click home
4. Tap on app 1 icon
5. repeat

Now:
1. Open app 1
2. Open in...
3. 4 finger swipe
4. Repeat.

Not only does it remove one step, it also means you don't have to move your hand away from the screen every time you need to switch, it is already in position. It gets really annoying if you have to do the same thing 4 or 5 times.

The only issue I've had with it is in GarageBand, as if you have 3 fingers holding a chord on the keyboard while adjusting a knob it will try to switch apps.

So changing the ipad to a developer version won't slow it down in any way or install tons of useless (to us non-developers) stuff on the ipad or have extra processes running the background, right?

If you are not informed enough to know how this works, you shouldn't be messing with nonstandard/non-consumer operations of your iPad and Mac.

That's not exactly true in this case. While I usually agree with this, when it comes to jailbreaking and the like, there is really no harm to be done by enabling these gestures. And there's no way to screw up the process as long as you follow the very simple instructions.

You only need to use 4 fingers for pinch to home. The all work if you use 5, but only 4 are necessary.

Much more intuitive and quick. You don't have to worry about which side the button is on, which I actually have found to be an annoyance especially when you're using the device in the dark.

You are totally right, in this case- it is harmless.

But I was speaking very generally. Because there will come a time when people that aren't "qualified" to handle non-standard consumer tasks, will attempt to do something beyond their means, because they had enabled gestures on their iPad or something equally as frivolous and unnecessary.

By all means (everyone) do this, I know I will. It does seem more intuitive. But people should ask themselves if they're savvy enough to mess with their very expensive devices.

How in the world would installing xcode and enabling gestures that were part of the developer beta testing "slow down" or "install" useless "stuff" to your iPad? If you (sic: anyone) can't see how that is a (nearly) irrelevant question, I'd put money on the savvy-ness of said person.
