1- i wasnt looking for help, i was just wondering, are people really satisfied, or is it just apple addiction, once you get there, you see it perfect while it isnt.

Well, having used Tiger 10.4.11 and having used Leopard 10.5.2, I can say I'm honestly more satisfied with Leopard. As AndyK said, I'm not sure who elected you to speak for everyone in saying that "[we] know, till now, it is a piece of c**p." For me, it's been perfectly stable. I experienced the X11 bug in 10.5.1, but it was fixed and functions fine for me in 10.5.2, and I haven't had any other troubles. I suffered a few kernel panics every once in a while in Tiger and have yet to have on in Leopard.

But you're right. It isn't perfect. In 10.5.2 they took away my translucent menus! 😱 Obviously, I can't use it anymore.

Seriously, try another archive and install or something. Try it in English (which again, isn't a solution, but if it worked fine, the Arabic thing would then become a tangible, known bug you can submit to Apple to fix in 10.5.3). But I can definitely say that isn't functioning well and stable for me, and I prefer it to Tiger. So if you're interested...

didnt you get any mail problems?
Nope. None.
no jams?
Again, none.
no troubles?
Well, there's the now-nearly-opaque menus, but other than that...No.

Please don't speak for everyone in calling Leopard a piece of c**p. For me and others, it certainly isn't.

These are my observations:

When I did a Leopard upgrade install over Tiger, the system wasn't overly fast and there were a few bugs present. The system got much faster when I did a clean erase and install (and updated using software update), but a few bugs persisted. It wasn't until I did a full erase and install and used the combo updater that most of my bugs went away.

It is a shame that Apple can't make a finished product that can smoothly upgrade Tiger and/or use software update with no ill effects. It is a shame that you have to use the combo updater to get the code exactly the way Apple intended it. Sure, this isn't great. But, at least there are solutions out there. They may not be conventional or the path of least resistence, but in the end, you can get Leopard to work extremely well and as it was envisioned.

just to clarify, the arabic thing is only inside programs, like unicodes or just anything to view what is written in arabic but all menus and everything is english.

afterall, your replies gave me hope in leopard coming back, sometime soon.

For the record, I have never had any problems with Leopard.

One of the "strong points" of Apple computers has been the total control over hardware and OS. It is my understanding that this helps eliminate many conflicts that are found on Windows machines. That being said, I have found it interesting that there seems to be so many people who have what appears to be hardware/OS conflicts (wireless, for example) and so many who do not have the same problems.

. . . just an observation.

If I had a copy of Tiger I would downgrade from Lep, nothing but problems, albeit small ones, they do add up quickly though.

My thought exactly. I have alot of problems with Leopard but they're mostly small - however, they pile up quickly.

Thankfully I've had no problems with Leopard that would make me consider downgrading...

But one reason why I will never downgrade to Tiger: Quicklook. 😀

hi everyone,
After waiting for over 3 months to get a stable and solid OS, i can wait no more. I downgraded to TIger and so much happier.
Isn't this the cycle of life after a release?

When Tiger was released, there was a minority for whom it didn't run well on their Macs, so they'd post a thread very similar to yours about how they were going to have to downgrade to Panther, and how stable Panther was, etc, etc, etc.

Interesting to see how Tiger's now being referred to as "stable", seeing as how some people wouldn't go near it with a 20-foot keyboard when it was first released. 😀

well i am not running 10.4.1
i am running 10.4.11
it wasnt stable and it gained stability
the same hopefully will happen with leopard, i am not giving up on it, just giving it time to get stable.
some people have no chance of using Leopard, just because of it lack of support of VPN but it will come.

i am lucky i am one of those who were allowed to upgrade for only £6. So i just threw my loyal Tiger restore discs.

I'm sorry to hear the constant problems you've been receiving with Leopard. I'm not here to say Leopard is excellent or terrible as I'm not the only one using it so I can't make that judgement. I'm here to say that I got my iMac in December 2007, upgraded it to Leopard with the drop in DVD and I haven't had one problem. I hope your problems are fixed in the future.

Well, thanks for the update. Just to demonstrate how happy I am with Leopard, I'd be willing to take it off your hands. For free of couse...

I'm not sure why people think Tiger is better 🙄 To each their own I guess.

Let's not have a flame war here. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I too have attempted to go back to Tiger after 10.5.2 didn't fix some of my issues. Unfortunately I couldn't restore my Time Machine backup from Tiger (apparently if you drag and drop a linked folder to another drive, it only copies the link rather than the content itself) so I'm back on Leopard again.

As a side note, I discovered that restoring from Time Machine doesn't recover everything. I started up from the Leopard DVD and performed a restore from TM, but after restoring iTunes was no longer authorised and my mailboxes were empty. I recovered everything but I wonder what else doesn't get restored.

Still on Tiger with no present plans to switch to Leopard. 10.4.11 does the job just fine.

well, i've installed leopard and i'm very disappointed. maybe in a couple days i'll be downgrading to tiger. i'm sick of wireless problems. and wireless is vital to get my work done. almost everything that is new in leopard is completely useless for me. the UI isn't consistent enough, the "new" dock looks horrendous to me, so i've been using the "plain" version. time machine is also useless to me, so no point in using leo 'cause only had problems with it. i don't need "spaces", exposé gets the job done. the only thing i'll miss is the quicklook feature, which is great. 😉

My out of the box, fresh Leopard installation refuses to connect to SMB shares on my 10.4 Xserve. It works fine with a fresh Tiger installation. Many users are reporting 10.5.x compatibility problems with Leopard and SMB, especially with NAS.

That reason alone means that I cannot deploy Leopard in my organization, regardless of the new features. I'm in a worse situation because I have new employees starting and need to purchase new Macbooks for them, yet they will all come preinstalled with Leopard (and apparently can't be downgraded to Tiger).

if i were you, i will restore everthing to an external drive and then downgrade.
be careful though, mail 3 database wont work on mail 2. it wont update, that may not be always true, but i promise it is trouble.

time machine, it is good but found similar issues like yours and for valuable content i wont be using it.

people with problems, maybe i should be happy knowing i am not the only one that ha(d) troubles with leopard, but i am not, it is really a shame that apple saying leopard is the best or any similar **** .... i have had enough.

Do you *really* have to be so aggressive about it?

The %age of people happy with Leopard is drastically higher than the %age not.

Just take a chill pill and relax when putting your opinions forward, you'll get a much nicer & more measured response / discussion.

I understand where the OP is coming from. I too, have had a few problems with Leopard (as I am sure many others have). Has it been enought to get me to switch back to Tiger? Hmmm. Not yet. But I've thought about it more than once. And I'm still happy that I made a bootable backup of my Tiger system before I went Leopard. Might just come in handy yet 😉

Leopard still has issues with repairing permissions on my PB. And I've been having power management issues with my battery for a couple months now (I can barely get 10 min out of it and its only on 50 cycles. I got a replacement, but if it persists I'm DEF RUNNING back to 10.4). I also hate the new dictionary widget in 10.5. And I use it a lot. Petty. I know. And tethering doesnt quite work in Leopard (atleast I havent gotten it to).

Really, the only thing thats been keeping me is the 2 finger double clicking. And quick look (I'm in love). Other than that I'd be running for the hills 😀

I too have had increasing problems with Leopard and am considering going back to Tiger.

Terminal's option to Export shortcuts to connections is gone. My Kensington mouse can no longer highlight and drag text to the command line in Terminal (only the trackpad and button underneath it works for this). I have the mysterious 10.5.2 update / broken spotlight calculator issue.

From my experience "It just works" doesn't apply to Leopard so far. I use Terminal everyday at work and the unresolved issues are increasingly annoying.

yes i agree, many people happy with leopard, that is good
after that advice what sort of response do you expect?
