Well this is a minor issue, but i would still like to know if my mbp is behaving normally.
The thing is that about a week ago i noticed, while sitting at home and working on my mbp, that i could hear the fan (or fans, not sure). The room was totally quiet with no background noise. I checked with iStat nano and both fans were running at the minimum 2000rpm. I could not remember hearing the fans at 2000rpm before, but not sure if i just haven't noticed it.
Putting my ear to the speakers it is obviously the left side that is loudest...almost can't hear the right side.

So my question is: Can you hear your fans running at 2000rpm when sitting in front of your mbp in a totally quiet room? And if so, is your left fan louder than the right?

    Thanks for any input :)

ok. i just got my MBP back from repair, because about 2 weeks ago my right side fan started making audible noise and "ticking and whirring" sounds.

i brought it in the first time to apple store and Genius ran diag. on it and it passed everything. 3 days later the right fan completely broke, and i brought it back and they replaced both fans at no charge under my 1 year warranty.

my MBP is a first run i believe, also had to partake in the battery replacement program.

now my fans are quiet as can be.

Can't hear the fans until they're maybe 4000 RPM, or higher. Even at max, they're not bad.

The harddrive is mounted in the left-front, and that's probably what you hear. It makes a soft "rushing" sound. (I have Hitachi 160, in 17" C2D).

That sounds like the source of the noise...never thought of the hard drive. But i still believe that it is louder than before...anything i can have done or installed which could cause the hard drive to make more noise?

I have exactly the same problem with my new (2 weeks old) MacBook Pro. Except that it's not minor for me, it gives me headaches.
Today I went to my local Mac store and the people there did not recognize this issue as such just because it was way to loud there to hear the whooshing. They told me it was normal and asked me whether I had installed something.
I did install FanControl, but it controls only the fans, not the HD. Anyway they removed it, went to their room again and told me it became much more silent.
I couldn't tell in the store so I went home happy. But now I hear exactly the same sound again. I even reseted both smc and pram, neither helped.
I will go to the Mac store again on Friday and ask them once more.
But what is really strange is that it started to emit sounds only yesterday (I did not do anything but watching movies that day). Before that it was completely silent.
Furthermore, I can now hear a high-pitched hum that stops when I am not using the trackpad for half a minute.
These noises make want to throw my 'Book out of the window:mad:
