1) Caffeine is healthy for you and can help your body prevent cancer and heart disease

2) Looking at the figures you gave I would be much much much more worried about your daily sugar intake. Thats probably whats making you feel bad, and causing you the withdrawal symptoms.

Are you feeling anxious because you want the caffeine, or just anxious in general?

Normally when you go through withdrawals after coming off a drug, you experience an extreme of the opposite to what the drug does. Caffeine is a stimulant, so I'd expect you to be feeling pretty wiped, not much energy at all. And before everyone gets all up in arms about me calling caffeine a drug; yes caffeine is a drug in the sense that it induces physiological changes in your body. It may not be an illicit or illegal drug, and I'm not making any morality statements here (I happen to love my caffeinated drinks), but it's a drug by definition.

I feel anxious in general but it's always worse after a lot of caffeine or (seemingly) after I've given up on it.
Woke up onto my 3rd day without it and I feel fantastic. This could be the best thing I did this month.

Jimmi- maybe you to use caffeine in moderation, rather than what you had been doing. I normally don't drink coffee or energy drinks- they make me cranky. But I do enjoy a Diet Coke once a day or so.

Good point. This may be an issue as well. No more high sugar levels in the blood may be doing it as well.

I don't think anyone was going to get all up in arms about it... It's widely accepted that it's a drug (not just in the mormoe community)

I know caffeine is supposed to be a drug, but is every chemical that has a physiological effect on the body considered a drug?

Is that how you define one, as opposed to any other sort of chemical that may have an effect of some sort?

Caffeine withdrawal usually means tiredness and headaches. I know you have a bit of anxiety to begin with, it almost sounds like you're getting off pretty easily on the withdrawal symptoms, which is excellent. I quit my morning 2-3 cups of coffee and for about a week I was tired, mean and achy. (I mean, even more so than normal :p)

Best of luck, Jimmi. That is a crapload of caffeine and sugar you were ingesting. I can't help but think it's a good thing to cut that out. :)

I drink a 36-52oz "jug" of Mountain Dew every morning Mon-Fri (1 jug actually lasts me about 4-5 hours). On weekends I don't get my MD fix and I usually get headaches by Sunday morning and I'm dragging.

Abstract,

Yes the actual definition for a drug is a chemical which alters the structure or function of the body. It's a tall order to find a chemical that won't do that; thus most substances can be classified as drugs when taken into the body.

Caffeine withdrawal usually means tiredness and headaches.

That's what I experienced when cutting out caffeine. The headaches only lasted a few days, though. Now I can have a caffeinated soda when at a restaurant and it won't bother me, but everything at home is decaffeinated.

I used to have a problem with it - I'd get the horrible headaches if I missed my morning pot.

I quit cold, but after a few weeks went back to one or two cups a day. Sometimes I miss it altogether and it no longer bothers me other than a yawn once in a while.

Really??? no joke, im reading the wikipidia page and its sounds sweet to me... I Think that I cant concentrate in class....

thanks... (i hope)

I was being sarcastic, but whatever floats your boat. Just note that adderall can be pretty spendy if you don't have a prescription.

Nope, I used to drink probably 7 or 8 cans of Diet Coke everyday (if not more) and one day I decided it was bad for me, and I stopped cold turkey. I had no problems quitting and had no weird feelings. I have caffeine occasionally, but usually stick to sprite, lemonade, or water. :)

I did this as well, just with classic coke instead. I just quit one day no headaches or any other signed of withdraw.

It took me a while to realize you meant 'coffee'.

Actually, I didn't know you meant coffee until you mentioned your "cup" in the next sentence.

lol. Want some coffee? I can get it reeaaly cheap. Good quality too... I grow my own. Coffee, I mean. :D

I drink a pretty stupid amount of coffee. Especially at work, where there's coffee everywhere I go (and it's always free) - I end up drinking way too much of it. Every month or so I'll cut down, but I always come back.

So yeah, I probably have a caffeine addiction.

The turbulence on your flights isn't due to wind and pressure variation, it is merely caffeine induced vibration originating from the cock pit!

"The pilot has had another cup of coffee, please fasten your seatbelts."

That doesn't explain why pilots sound mellow and relaxed over the intercom though.

I used to drink 3-8 cans of Diet Coke every day, and 1 or 2 cans of sugar free red bull. As well as coffee. I'd fall asleep if I didn't. (I wasn't really eating much...)

Now I drink a few cans a day, maybe 3, and no red bull. If I don't have diet coke I get bad headaches and can barely stay awake. I don't drink coffee anymore- it makes me twitchy, and doesn't seem to work like Diet Coke does.

Ssshhhhh! Stop giving away all the secrets! :)

I gave up soda about three weeks ago. Haven't had a coke, my favorite, or any type of carbonated caffeine beverage at all. I've had some cravings, but not too bad and no side effects like headaches, jitters, etc. Just stick with it. Once you manage for quite some time you won't miss it and then you can slowly work it in every once in a while as a treat. :)

I love drinking coffee for the taste-a little bit of creme, no sugar. I probably have 2-3 cups per day on average. Caffeine doesn't usually have a huge stimulatory effect on me. I'm rarely wired and I can usually go to sleep even after having some coffee in the evening.

However, I've noticed that on days that I don't have coffee I feel that something is missing from my morning. Occasionally I get a bit grumpy and anxious when I'm not able to sit down sometime in the morning or early afternoon and have my fix.

I am trying to switch my coffee drinking to green tea drinking.

It has the caffeine kick + antioxidants, and its lighter on the stomach.

(But you have to get the real stuff with leaves, not the one in bags)

Green tea FTW:D
