Siri works everywhere, you never have to quit the app. Welcome to the future!

Activating Siri means you're leaving the app. You don't seem to know iOS very well, maybe you should keep saving up and one day you'll afford one of your own.

I'm not joking and "yes." And do you REALLY not believe that app maker specifically did not use 2 hour events at a minimum to make up for the fact that you can't tell what the events are WITHOUT them being that long?
That view isn't meant for details at a glance, but for an overview at a glance. Tapping an event gives you the details, or you can simply zoom in and have it look like in Apple's calendar if you want.

And to your last point...if you want something different or a feature that really only important to a minority of the MILIONS of users out there, you can buy an app for $2.99 and tell the world how great it is. It doesn't change the fact that Apple made the changes it did because they felt (and it is their product) that it is better. If they feel that the "problems" you listed are real, they will change the app....but I'm betting that out side of colored dots, the current app will stay as is because it is easier to see and use this way.
Please, do explain in what way being able to pinch to show more hours in the portrait mode would be worse.

I see the problem, you should really get a different phone otherwise you would know that Siri acts as a layer on top of your current app. Closing Siri takes you directly back to where you left off. With the new transparent theme in iOS 7, you can even see the calendar app in the background while using Siri.
I think Windows Mobile 6.5 would be just right for your demands.
Try again.

Don't want to talk to my phone to get something I could easily do with the way I interact with my phone normally (through touch) and perhaps even more importantly quietly. Plus tell any if this to an iPhone 4 user with iOS 7--Siri will be a lot of help there.
.

The iPhone 4 argument is valid but then again, I think they should have never let people upgrade to iOS7 on these phones. It is really no joy using it on my old iPhone 4. Luckily I don't have to.
On the other hand, voice is the future, get used to it.

I assume you're an intelligent person and that you actually do understand what I'm saying, so why even partake in the discussion if the only thing you're interested in is to act as if you don't in order to belittle people?

Consider me being out of this discussion from now.

While voice might be great and all, there are just far too many circumstances where a good majority of people will usually if not practically always opt for being quiet/private with what they are doing on their personal mobile device (think quiet places like work, libraries, public transportation, etc.; or loud places where voice interaction is hard due to the background sound level; or just even public places or just some with other people around where you simply don't want everyone to be able overhear your private information, even if not sensitive). It's just not practical, and it never will be in at least a good amount of those kinds of cases.

Agree with Op

I know this is a pretty old thread, but for the sake of curiosity I was searching for others who despise the iOS 7 native calendar as much as I do. From reading this thread, it appears the response is pretty mixed, even heated at times which is kind of funny to me. Anyway..

The issue I have with it is not the functionality. Functionality can always be relearned. The issue I have is the way it looks. It's so flat and lifeless that it's too difficult for me to look at for more than a few seconds. The app needs COLOR, desperately. Something to discern between the top part of the calendar and the other UI elements. Until that happens, and knowing Apple's bullish arrogance, it probably won't, I'll be using other calendars.

It may have been mentioned before, but Fantastical is a great option for those that liked the old iOS 6 calendar. The UI is similar but different enough that it fits the look and feel of iOS 7 without being completely lifeless. I'd recommend it to people who can't stand Apple's offering.

This is kinda embarrassing. Split view on the 4s in iOS 7.1 only shows 1 event at a time in March. Good thing I'm getting the iPhone 5s later this week.

I like the new Calendar. Why would they downgrade back to the iOS 6 calendar? Its functional, its clean. Never given me any problems until DST.

Well, as of 7.1 it's actually fine (mainly still missing all-day event notifications in the Notification Center).

Yeah, thats the only thing I miss. I heard 7.1 fixed the issue, so I can't wait for the update.
Not that part of it. 7.1 brings list view in Notification Center and brings back event view in monthly view in the calendar app, but no all-day notifications in notification center.

SO they basically went back to what worked better before.

I wish they kept the agenda view (days with the events in a list). If I do a hard reset, I get that until I touch the three-line icon at the top. From then on, I can only go between the month with events below / month by itself / & year. I can't get back to the agenda view.

I beta tested 7.1 and submitted bug reports about that, but nothing changed in the final version. Is there some kind of secret to getting the agenda view???

Meanwhile, I REALLY like FantastiCal - it's not only beautiful, but extremely user-friendly and now I can have it on my iDevices AND MBP.

When you are in the month view, touch that box and 2 lines icon on the top again to disable the month with events below view and get the month by itself view and and then tap on one of the days to go to the day view where agenda view can be enabled with the 3 line icon a the top on that page. Not straightforward really, and requires enabling/disabling and tapping more than one thing to get to it, but still a way to be able to access it without restarting or anything like that.

You nailed it!!! THANK YOU !!!

Yeah, it's a fairly indirect way of going about it. The good thing is at least it's there and seems to be what you were looking for.
