My biggest concern is if people are getting a discount on the DATA PLAN (single line or family plan) I am pretty sure the discount will apply to the Voice plan on the primary line.

With the 3G iPhone, the Data plan is included in the cost of the entire plan (unlike the original iPhone, where the Data plan had to be bought separately), so the discount applies to the entire service plan (voice + data).

BL.

R u sure...because what about those who buy the phone as an add on to their family plan. they add the line for $10 and pay $30 for data right? If so, then the data is considered a seperate plan.

I called att business line last friday morning and they told me no fan discount. To all you that say they have it, let me know when ya'll get your first bill and see if it is added to it.

Clarification

If I already have the FAN discount applied to my current phone - can I simply go to the AT&T store and buy the phone and they will automatically apply my discount to the iPhone 3G? If I can continue to save on the monthly bill, I'm in. Thanks.

Well, I just bought an iPhone today, even though I was planning for the BB Bold! Yikes, lol. Anyway, I added the discount today too for 15% off, and I realized that I will not be able to activate my iPhone unless my discount was taken off the account. I called AT&T today to remove the discount, and he verified me that through his management, they are treating the iPhone 3G as any other account because the number one complaint with the 1st generation iPhone users was that business--or company--users weren't able to have the discount, which caused some people to not buy the product, so now they decided to do something about it. Remember, the representative said it was approved by his supervisor to tell customers that if they have a discount, to call them and have it removed. Once you get your iPhone activated, call them back or reapply for your discount online. You can call them back after receiving your first bill for verification that the discount went through. I am satisfied. :)

The AT&T rep I spoke to at Premier explicitly stated that the FAN would only apply to voice, but also noted that it may vary by company, but he was able to look at my account and see exactly what would be discounted. So my understanding is you'll get your X% off voice, pay the flat rate for data, and get whatever X% off for SMS and other such add ons, and pay whatever you're eligible for in terms of hardware.

Bottom line - do I have to remove the FAN then re-add it if I buy at an AT&T store instead of Apple store? Or just go into AT&T store, go through the activation process, and not worry about losing my FAN? Thanks.

Just called them. They added the FAN discount back to the account, no problem.

EDIT: It's already up on my account.

Non one is willing to add my FAN back on via the telephone. They say I have to go through the website but I noticed now my email brings another FAN number. Any ideas?

From what I gathered during this entire process:

If you buy at Apple stores: You need to have the FAN discount removed first from your account. The degree of difficulty to do this depends on the ATT CSR's ability to remove it completely. Once removed, you can then proceed to buy from Apple. You can then re-add your FAN later (and it will show up in your OLAM immediately) with the caveat that it will take 2 billing cycles for it to take into effect. <---This last part is the showstopper for many as people don't want to lose their FAN for 2 billing cycles. If you don't watch this like a hawk, it might not even apply after 2 cycles w/o a friendly call to your favorite CSR at ATT.

If you buy at ATT stores: Your FAN is not affected in any way. However, you are at the mercy of ATT's lack of stock. This is where I fall unfortunately.

Also, the level of discount and how it applies to your plan is dependant on how your company's FAN is setup. On mine, its 25% on the ENTIRE plan. With that said, I'm on a family plan and I get discount on the voice and data for every line (except the $9.99 of each add on line). So if I get 3 lines that have data, I get the discount on all 3 data plans.

Like with any info surrounding this iPhone release, YMMV.
