Doubling my move ring almost every day now since 5.0. I've updated to 5.0.1 but it has made no difference.

Other rings seem unaffected - still hitting my stand goal around the same time each day.

One thing I’ve noticed too is that my step count doesn’t match up in the health app with what is on the watch and they used to. Now my health all is reporting higher steps than what the watch says. Weird.

As of this point today:

Fitbit: 2604 calories
AW: 2663 calories

They seem pretty close.

Not sure what's up with the rings for some people, but it seems like the calorie count is pretty decent, at least for me.

Same for me. Today (pretty more still than usual) I exceed the activity ring with too much calories. So I don’t know why, but apple changed the algorithm.

I also compared my fit bit and Apple Watch . 500 calorie difference. Currently my watch is pretty useless as a activity tracker

Both exercise and calories have been too generous since I got my AW4 with 5 and 5.1

I have never had a long move streak until I put my new AW4 on and now have the longest move streak and it keeps on going.

If Apple is constantly adjusting their algorithms the data from the watch is pretty well useless. I have never really paid that much attention to it and I use the number just to compare from day to day. 5.1 did tone down 5.0 but not near enough.

I take all the data with a GIANT "grain of salt"!

Yeah before watch is 5 I used to pay attention to my move calories and I actually had to move a lot more to close them and it was a challenge.

Now I totally ignore them because I know the numbers are all screwed up and I’m passing the same previous goal so easily. I wish they would address this somehow. I think it was probably more accurate before. Remember that saying that it takes walking one football field to burn off the calories from a single m&m? Yeah it used to be like that before. Now sitting on my butt for a couple of hours watching Netflix and it shows that I burned like 40-100 calories doing that. Yeah somethings not right!!!

My Move ring fills probably 25-30% faster since the update. My Exercise ring might actually be moving a little slower, but probably relatively accurate.

This is just a hypothesis, so don't crucify me if I'm off here: Many of you are saying that the calorie count now is higher than before, and thereby believeing that it is wrong. Going through the comments it seems that several people utilize the Apple Watch along with other fitness tracking devices, and are reporting that they are either the same or very close. So, given that information, isn't it possible that the way your Apple Watch tracked calories before was actually wrong, but now it is more accurate?

That is possible in my case...I have no other basis to compare on

It maybe is true, but something very strange is that we are burning calories even tired on the sofa or bed. Is it normal????

It’s normal, as long as you’re breathing you burn calories. More movement = more calories burnt in the simplest of terms.

Do you think it can help you to loose weight : when you try to finish the circles ?

Absolutely it can! As long as you set your Move goal accordingly, you definitely can lose weight. I made a goal to lose 13 lbs and did it, and have continued to keep it off in large part to my desire to close my rings every day. It's a great motivator for me!

Anyone get this super high calorie burn issue fixed? Mines still all wonky. 3200 calorie burn yesterday for a relatively light day

I saw one YouTube video where they tested Apple Watch, Garmin compared to HRM chest strap and HR on both AW and Garmin always came up much less than chest strap so it’s possible Apple just adjust their algorithm to be more accurate.
If you could link the video it would be awesome. Curious to see if Apple just made it more accurate

That calories you say are the basal ones. Because of that apple health split them between energy in activity / energy in rest.

So... I keep thinking that it could be more accurate but burning calories (in activity) while I am sit on the sofa is not correct.

I had a fitbit, if the calories for AW are in that ballpark, even the same zip code, this thing is going back. The fitbit I had was terrible.

I'll know more today. I'm going to do a run followed by a mild hike using different apps with podcasts running. I want to see battery life and calorie accuracy. So far, my inclination is that it's higher than I'd like.

But, the positive thing about calories, is that as long as it's inaccurate in the same way every time you can compensate.
