I took my Crumpler Three Million Dollar Home across Europe for a month, to 13 different countries, with my T2i and two lens (plus zoom in my luggage for certain days). It still looks brand new and kept everything protected and safe from bumps, jolts, rain, snow, thieves, etc.
I would not be happier with it, and they make larger sizes for larger lenses. I spent days researching this, and probably looked at every camera case made today. It really depends on what you want.
I wanted something small enough to carry everyday for a month with two lenses, for that the Crumpler is at the top of my list, and it doesn't look too much like a camera bag.
However, if want to take the iPad along, backpacks are superior to other cases, because all the iPad/Camera cases I have seen are too bulky to not just use a backpack. That said, you seem to have already purchased a bag, you should be looking for a camera insert.
Also, someone mentioned the Scottevest, I have one, it's cool, but I have never used it to carry my iPad. The iPad sleeve works well, but I just feel silly with the iPad in there. Cool concept, but realistically you'll never use it that way.
