At this point all the flagship phone cameras are great. The differences are mostly subjective.

It's pretty amazing what all these cameras can do.

Apple's flawed portrait mode blurring the wrong parts of images is not subjective.

Wasn't even close for me that Camera B is better.

I'm seeing the whole cup and sign so I don't know where they're getting this crap about it being cut off.
You should look closer. Look at the rim of the cup right beneath the gold android. The entire back rim has become part of the background blur. You can actually see the spot (on the right) where the computational algorithm split the foreground from the background.

I’m hoping the Note 10 improves low light or I’m waiting till 2020 since most reviewers couldn’t tell too much of a difference in note 9 vs galaxy S10 pics........I need something similar to that google night shot software to even think that a camera would be a decent upgrade..but wide angle and the video capabilities is a plus on this years newer galaxy devices.

Note 10 needs a killer feature so it better be night shots and a additional wide angle lens on the front camera.........at least. Also, move the power button to the same place as the Note 9.

These are all great points DNichter. I do think some constructive criticism for Apple would be improved low light photography. It’s evident that’s an area for improvement, the iPhone camera and competitors alike have really put out some nice hardware, it’s just one crucial area that needs addressing is low light from my perspective. Let’s see what the triple lens camera has to offer this fall.

Absolutely. I think the competition today is great because it’s doing just that, constantly pushing Apple and really everyone to get better. Low light photography is definitely an area where Apple can improve and I’m sure we’ll see just that come Fall. I have no issue with some criticism for Apple or really anybody in the tech world. What I am growing more and more frustrated with (and I am guilty as well) is the constant bashing back and forth (disrespect for someone else’s opinion) over such insignificant differences in the grand scheme of things. I’d rather discuss new ways to use our products, what we hope to see in the future, cool new apps and use cases, things along those lines. We all appreciate this stuff in the end.

You are teaching me something. I’m getting tired of the bashing as well. I may prefer one company but I use devices from both so we are better off pointing out the differences in a non-bias manner. Everything has its pluses and negatives.

Again, well said. And sometimes I think these articles that compare the competitors between Samsung and Apple, create divisiveness, and we all appreciate tech as a whole, that’s why we all are here. Samsung to me has some great innovation and hardware with the camera, ect, just as well as Apple does. But one thing matters in the end, competition is needed and it’s a good thing.

Exactly. It’s just the putting down and acting like our choice is somehow better than someone else’s that is annoying. Criticize in a way that isn’t trying to put someone down. I know I would enjoy the conversation much more.

I wish they would downgrade the camera so that it's flush like it used be.

No phone is capable of doing serious photography, so I'd rather have a more streamlined phone. My ideal phone would be slightly smaller than the iPhone 6, but will the bezels of the iPhone X, and face ID.

Even better, I'm willing to settle for less. The camera on my 2017 model X.

Many of my photo issues are due to mistakes on my part anyway.

For me it goes A, A, B, both are flawed and hard to decide, then the most interesting one comes up... the sky is way better in A. The cobblestone is roughly the same. The city is better in B. I think I’d take A because so much is lost in the sky and the city can be salvaged.

Interesting. My picks for best B,A,A,B,A. Really surprise Samsung camera didn't come out on top in every photo. I remember this happened with the s9. It almost was better than the iphone x.

Okay but I don't understand why you're assuming iPhone's portait mode is supposed to be good at taking photos anything else but humans if it's literally called p o r t r a i t mode - designed for taking portaits. I've never seen Apple advertizing it for taking pictures of anything else, so I'm really not surprised that it's not perfectly optimized in that category.

This sort of lines up with what a lot of reviewers have said. iPhone still has the best all-around reliability for photos. Other vendors may beat iPhone in one category or another but on average, iPhone is great for just about everything although still weak in low-light conditions (although iPhone does still have best color fidelity when using flash).

One phone is better than the other. But it makes little difference.

The power within a photograph is conveyed to a viewer not by gear, but by the skill of the person making the photograph. And that has to do with a large number of factors, including life experiences, curiosity, imagination, ability to read light, ability to compose, timing, recognizing a photograph's potential for releasing narrative, post processing skills and on and on.

The choice of gear is pretty much mice-nuts, outside of certain uses that for many are pretty much edge cases.

As an aside, I've noticed those that are on perpetual missions to own the best gear, produce the most ho-hum photographs. It ultimately comes down to wanting to be a photographer or a camera owner.

Obsess over making (rather than taking) photographs, not acquiring the best gear.

Interestingly I prefer the Portrait mode on my XR due to more usable range of lighting because of better sensor than the zoom lens used on dual camera iPhones. Apple should the ability for the user to select which lens to use for Portrait mode on iPhone XS/XS Max. I love my XR, but I will be going to the XS replacement for the dual/triple lens and 3D Touch.
