I take it this is a scientifically validated comparison? :p:D (sticks with DxOMark)

this is the second time ive found myself being strongly put off by the clear editorial slant of this author's posts.

It is not like it is some scientific test or something. I would go visit DxOMark or some other site that does rigid tests.

The proof is in the pudding as they say. I found shots 2,3 and 5 better. DxoMark can say what it wants.

Dxomark is infinitely more scientific and stands up to scrutiny. Your say doesnt :p
The proof is still in the pudding. As scientific as they are, a miss is as good as mile.:p Obviously they missed the mark here as the max photos are just better.

edit: I still get to spend my dollars where I think they will be best served is the point that is missed.

Anyone else notice that he appears to be always reading from the screen under the camera? I can't seem to stop noticing the fact....he doesnt even blink to make it look natural.

True, and I would. But its not the content, its the tone of the writing. there's a clear editorial bias on the part of the author. several other people have commented on this in this thread alone.
I expect it in the comments but MR contributors have in the past been a lot better about not letting their bias show too much. its very off-putting.

Unedited, they’re all equally bad. If I had to chose, I’d want the underexposed images. I can salvage those easier with post-editing.

Always remember ****ALWAYS**** iPhone uses 1 year Old technology. comparison is unfair as XS is using 2017 technology vs Samsung 2019 or perhaps 2020.

Then Apple should charge you less for “old” technology. This is what $1000 gets you when you buy the “best” phone available from each manufacturer.

Personally I have never put any importance towards a smartphone camera other than quick convenient means of capturing something for reference and as long as it can do that, job done. The rest is a waste of money and I never consider the camera in my phone choice.

Just proves how little difference there is in phone hardware today. The choice comes down to OS platform preference and most on this site have already made their choice. The constant back and forth on this site is a waste of energy. Enjoy what we all have in tech today and put more energy into your friends, family, and surroundings.

What comes straight out of the camera is a useful comparison, but not the most important to me. I'd rather see which camera produces the best pictures after suitable editing overseen by humans and not algorithms.

The pictures from better cameras (DSLRs or larger sensor mirrorless) might look worse out of the camera, but can tolerate more aggressive enhancements, and end up much superior.

"Fundamental superior"? iOS?
You have no idea how far behind iOS is.
Android isn't perfect either, it's just more technical for developers. iOS is much smoother and the user experience, regardless of how many times people have said it, is much better than Android.

Every year the same camera comparison ...

Did you have a specific point? It’s expected every year offers new smart phones and the cameras are usually upgraded/tweaked, hence the comparisons. For 2019, it will be a comparison for the ‘triple lens cameras’ likely for the iPhone ‘11’ and S10.

Overall, we preferred the images from the iPhone XS Max over the images from the Galaxy S10 because the iPhone offered more true-to-life colors, better dynamic range, and superior contrast...
Smackdown!
