That pumpkin photo the Pixel 7 took is next level.

Because there's no flash. Why the flash is on, on the iPhone and the Pixel was used without a flash is beyond me. Terrible comparison.

iPhone clearly has the flash on, light is coming from the front. Pixel has the light coming from the left. Author, care to elaborate?

Something seems off with the pumpkin picture on the iPhone. Almost like it used flash instead of night mode ... or something. My night mode pictures are incredible.

The iPhone output looks better to me in every comparison except the pumpkin shot — this almost looks like the flash went off vs a true night shot.

Yup. The flash was on and it should have been turned off. Last photos need to be removed or updated correctly using the SAME settings on each phone. Either flash on or off.

I don't think these photos can be judged against each other. One is shot with flash, the other available light. Perhaps it was that difference that you liked, and would have liked the Apple better if the lighting source had been reversed. Another commenter mentioned that he wanted straight up comparison to judge, not comparing apples to oranges. I agree, and this was the most egregious shot. Since the settings aren't mentioned, it is difficult to say if the flash was a preferred setting or automatic. The opening shot and comments by the author were in direct conflict with the displayed images. Look at the shadows, they are darker and richer in the iPhone, not the Pixel shot. There were other similar issues where the text wasn't describing what I saw.

Pixel camera: 10/10
iPhone 14 Pro camera: 9.8/10

Everything else about the Pixel: 1/10
Everything else about the iPhone: 10/10

Simple.

So the Pixel has "remove the dog in my arms" feature and neither camera system can fix my child's Strabismus.

Good to know.

Most of the Pixel Photos look more natural. This is a space where Apple must improve. The iPhone 14 Pro is > 1000$ - i would expect the image quality to be at least par with the Pixel.
Apple claims to have the best smartphone out here. Looking at the cameras, i cannot agree.
Will this be improved in the future? Probably. But no ... it will cost even more then.

I didn’t get any of these references. See, I am part of the 95% people who won’t make use of ProRAW. The quality of point and is not enough to satisfy me, 13 Pro didn’t. I had iPhone 8 before that, and even close to the 13 Pro switch, its photos had always impressed me.
Yup, as I also explained several times in seveal threads here (incl. this one), the 14 doesn't really produce better photos when NOT used in ProRAW mode.

TLDR;

They're roughly equal, as camera technology flatlines and it is mere nitpicking at this point.

You're not gonna convince any intelligent person to switch ecosystems over 30x zoom at night. Who the hell does 3ox zoom at night?

Google is more aggressive when it comes to pricing. The pre-VAT price of the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro in Germany, for example, is currently about 5% to 6% higher (in USD) than the same phone in the U.S. The 128GB Google Pixel 7 Pro in Germany is currently about 18% to 19% LOWER (in USD) than the same phone in the U.S. Perhaps not low enough to be considered "dumping" but the Pixel in this example is available at a pretty good discount against the U.S. price.
Yes, the Pixel 7 Pro is much cheaper. And for this price you have a charger included in most bundles... iPhone prices are usually close to the official (Apple) retail price, at least for the first year after introduction.

Foliage and grass texture was once a smeared mess on iPhone. Now, foliage and grass texture is a smeared, over sharpened mess...like a 10 year old HTC phone camera.

Apple, with iPhone 12 series, decided to let shadows be shadows...that was welcomed. Now, iPhone 14 Pro gets flummoxed trying to balance light and shadow.

I am new to iphonwe and the only thing I dont seem to get down proper is shots at night. They are either super bad resolution wise or grainy. Now I dont take much fotos in the dark so fine but I'd still like to know how to get nightmode working

Other than that While I know the pixel will produce shots with more pixels I am super happy about being able to get very good fotos reliably while that was a problem on my p30 pro

Whoa! Pixel 7 Pro for the win! Those photos looked WAY better!

I'm wondering if the new image processing pipeline is over-processing on the iPhone? Does taking RAW avoid the processing pipeline, or is just automatically built in?

I’m not overly convinced that the author has the prerequisite knowledge and skills to perform this type of analysis. To do it properly, the conditions have to be held as controlled as possible, the camera settings properly optimized and a professionals eye and measurements used to evaluate. The overall tone of the article and obviously different picture specifics give me no assurance that this was anything more than an informal uncontrolled test. I have no idea if a professionally performed review would have had any different results, but at least we could be sure that the differences were in the cameras and software, not in the poorly controlled test conditions

I for one would like to see professional results say from dxomark

Based on the pictures above, the Pixel 7 Pro is winning. Big time.
Just use the phone, take a photo, enjoy life.
THESE pictures being the key word. Take another 20 and Apple will look better, another 20, back to Pixel.

Aren't all these cameras good on flagship phones? Aren't we in the doldrums and boring part of smartphones? Preference of software, thats about it.

I would like it if MacRumors would show images taken from both phones of the same subject and lighting conditions side-by-side, randomly on the left or right without identifying which phone it is from. Then I get to pick which one I like best. At the bottom, I can hit a button to reveal my selections for each phone model.
I would like to see a blind vote with the results not available till after the voting closes so people can’t cheat in any way.

All these people saying Pixel looks better would probably pick iPhone if they didn’t know any better. Of course we will never know unless we try. I think the iPhone pictures look better, but that could just be something subconscious bias. A blind vote would be better.

I had the pixel 7 pro ( with the google watch ).
All in all the Pixel 7 Pro is the better phone - the camera is much better, there is a very good fingerprint sensor and the display is also better (compared to my iPhone 14 Pro Max).

But at the end of the day I sent the Pixel 7 Pro back.
The interoperation of the iphone 14 pro max, the apple watch ultra and the macs / ipad weights more.
Without that I would had sold the iPhone.

I took this photo in Januari last year from my car with my 12PM. I didn't do any editing at all. The sky looked entirely different than in the photo, it was very cloudy. Even the stars look like Orions belt is the flare of three street lamps. A lot of things were wrong in this picture but it looks like "Magic"

Agreed, except maybe the display but that's very subjective.

The damn Apple watch, ease of Face ID authentication, air drop with mac, airpods... yup, I'm glued!!

But, I love the Pixel 7 series!! Besides the camera, the voice to txt, battery ( on the Pro ) and phone features are simply amazing. As a smartphone, the Pixel makes the iPhone look dumb!
