I don’t understand why they don’t just make the back casing and internal battery larger to remove the bump. Everyone here would be making fun of and trashing an android phone if they did that. How can someone sit here and say that Apple makes elegant products with a humpback sticking out making the product wobble?
You want the glass lens to lie flat on its face when then phone is kept on a surface. Wouldn’t that make the lens cover scratch prone?

Zagg made little round "Glass Lens Protectors" in the past just like the screen protectors for the other side. They would still be a good product. How many time do you grab the phone by the lenses to get the phone out of the pocket?

I am sure you can but the vast majority view the photos on the phone screen pretty much as it appears. The camera bump has to go at some point; the competitive marketplace is a bit ahead of camera tech at this point or they would never have sacrificed clean design to make space for the camera.

Because the phones are already quite heavy and a lot of people wouldn't want it to become even heavier for an improvement to battery life because battery life is already good enough for most people. Besides that, a phone with a bump is easier to pick up from a flat surface and most people probably don't really care that much.

I personally don't understand the hate against the camera bump - I don't think it looks bad and if it means better cameras then I will accept any size camera bump (within reason obviously!).
You almost concede the bump is tolerable not desirable.

People on Reddit have been saying it’s worth going to the Apple store for a diagnostic. You have nothing to lose and if they find something wrong (I have heard some phones may have a defective ISP), you might get a replacement.
Thanks for letting me know that. If it happens again I’ll keep that in mind.

I couldn’t use the phone anyway because the pulse width modulation flicker was incompatible with my migraine sensitivity level. Wow that was a mouthful! I can use some OLED displays but some I just can’t. I’m hoping I can use the one on the 14 Pro or Pro Max. I did okay with the one on the 12 Pro Max. Unfortunately I didn’t immediately connect my symptoms with the new display until past the return period. I don’t always manifest the same symptoms to the pwm.

After seeing this, NOBODY should ever complain about the camera bumps on the iPhone. 😂

Apple would never do 100x zoom. Quality after 30x isn’t that good.
On 100x zoom my pictures of the moon are amazing. You can see so much detail. It’s insane. But I suspect there’s some software trickery going on with sampling of pre existing moon closeups to fill in details the camera didn’t actually catch. We know one of the Chinese manufacturers, Huawei, was caught out doing a more direct version of this. They simply replaced the photo taken by the phone with one stored in a database if I recall correctly. I don’t think Samsung is so lacking in subtlety to do that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if stored data is used to supplement the actual image. Whatever, the results are amazing and still faithfully reproduce color and lightning conditions that exist when the photo is taken.

100 x zoom of ordinary terrestrial objects suffers from camera shake and significant loss of image quality but I am still impressed by the improvements Samsung has made in the last couple of years.

I often wish Apple would partner up with Leica to make better quality lenses for our iPhones. The crazy little blue orbs from lens flare ruin so many photos I and my family take. I don’t even have this problem with some of my cheaper Android phones or older iPhones. I think it’s gotten worse in the last couple of years.

Most of my photos seem alright, but maybe I’m not looking close enough. I guess part of life’s wisdom is not to look too close because you’ll be bound to find some imperfection that will irritate you once you discover it. Night photos/videos with bright lights present are usually the photos I notice some issues and that’s usually when I take out my Sony RX100M3 to save the day (or night).

8K video recording. Most requested feature ever for my next phone. Said no one. Ever.

How about tackling the weight problem. iPhones have become porkers. My 13 pro is the heaviest phone I’ve had (other than … my previous 11 pro max!!). Had to get rid of my 11 pro max .. just too heavy. Mostly noticed holding one handed and the pinky finger naturally rests under the phone.

My 13 pro is living on borrowed time , especially when I can get a great spec Android which weighs less and costs 100’s of $ less. Struggling to think of a single reason why I must have an iPhone at the moment other than familiarity.

A 5x or even larger optical zoom would be an improvement. 3x is much less than the competition.
Standing in front of my family , taking a shot. Press 3x. Whoa .. too zoomed in. If I zoom out a little , it will actually switch to the 1x lens and the digitally zoom the rest until you hit 3x. If I click 1x, I’m zoomed way too far back now. Grrrr.
How I miss my 2x optical on the XS.
So inevitably you walk back a bit , every time. And sometimes miss the shot !
Now 5x … if you are a fan of shots of nose hair , then great 👍🏻

Not everyone wants or cares about annual camera improvements, I wish we had a configuration choice at purchase time.
You're right. But I don't think Apple's improvements to the camera would be the only draw to a new phone.

And multiple configs would be too complicated.

The PWM frequency was increased when the screen refresh rate went from 60 to 120. I suspect if you get the standard 14 models that will still be capped at 60 it'll be fine.

We have been told more times that I can count about the security of the iPhone system vs the insecurity of the Android world. There is some truth to that statement.

Been around computers since the mid 1970s and started with the brick sized cell phones. Over time, the relatively high density of this equipment now going in to the hands of non-tech navy folks makes many easy pickings for less than scrupoulous players.

From a simple telephone, we now have more power in the latest iPhone in our hand than probably all of the computers together used on the first Moon mission. Some folks want to be connected to the universe and others want just a phone.

I am not sure one can purchase "just" a cell phone with no frills. In a lot of ways, that is the most secure device. The opeartor has the phone numbers in his head and that is the data base. The phone company has the records of the calls.

Any and all apps above just being able to dial and answer a call and talking are potential security vectors.

I’m doubting 8K photos or video recording will be a feature available on the next iPhone. It doesn’t make sense due to no devices being available to view 8K content in all its glory. TV? Monitor? iPhone display? Nope. It would eat up way too much storage with zero upside for the consumer.

One thing people don’t seem to be considering in the relentless pursuit of megapixels is sending them. What’s it going to be like to try and message them? Assuming they’ll be down-res’d for messaging, what if you want to send an original quality? Clog their email with 50MP photos and 8k video clips? Fill their Dropbox or iCloud storage? How long will sending them take if you’re on the go? Will they send at all for those of us often in 1-2 bar territory? Shoving mexapixels into a smartphone isnt the same as having a UHR archive on your desktop library from your SLR camera.
Let’s first see Apple implementation.
May be the full res is only available in proRaw, as it is already a big file meant to be post processed ?

I hope the 2x crop from the new 48Mp WA is close in quality to the old 2x lens. I mean, it have the same luminance resolution, more sensor area, more aperture… depending on the bayer filter, color resolution could be significantly lower though

The bump doesn't bother me at all. As a photographer I want an outstanding camera with excellent features, and have been making photographs with iPhones for years.

I do not want a thicker or heavier phone. I'll take the bump any day over a thicker/heavier phone.

Regarding the competitive marketplace...Apple is doing fine there, manufacturing/shipping/selling roughly 600,000 iPhones every day of the year (on average).
