so i figure i would humor you guys and use Safari, but i uninstalled it after i installed Leopard. now i can't download it because it says the beta won't work.

That kinda sucks. Why would you delete a browser though? I always have like 4 to 5 installed on my machines in case I ever need one in specific. I use Safari on my Mac and love it fastest out there, and on my PC (when I use it at least) I use FF.

Never tried Firefox on Mac, but I can't imagine anything faster than Camino with ads and popups turned off. I love some things about Safari, the ability to use dictionary, the really cool highlighting in FIND, the way I can click on the URL bar type one letter and then it highlights my most common location with that letter, hit enter and you are there. Camino does this but not as well.

Really, I still think Opera is the coolest browser. I have never used it on Mac because I don't think it's Cocoa. If you ever try Opera's mouse gestures you won't believe how fast they can allow you to surf. I can't believe no other browser has ever used them. If you don't know what they are take a look here.

Main problem with Camino is that on Leopard it is butt-ugly.

Once they come out with an update for Leopard it will be great again. :D

i've never been able to get mouse gestures to work for me. and do they work on trackpads when you aren't using a mouse?

my preference has always been FF because: i love the adblock features. i love being able to customize it. i love the session saver feature. and i absolutely need/love the tab browsing customization available in FF. until another browser offers what i can do with FF tabs, i can't see myself switching.

all are good. my wife uses safari and never complains about it. camino is nice. opera is very cool but the tab behavior is maddening to me.

the look of FF has never been an issue for me because of all the themes available to it.

no big deal i got it back, i just had to use the OSX Leopard disk. anways i don't really know why i got rid of it. i think i'm just used to have a laptop with a small hdd, so i try and conserve space. not something i really need to worry about having a 120gig i suppose.

Oh you did not just start yet another thread on this topic.

I've done the rounds, I started with Firefox, then switched to Camino and found it a lot nicer and faster to boot up. Then I switched to Safari, which is faster still by my experience.

I did pretty much the same...somehow I always end up with using safari for usual browsing and firefox if some websites give me trouble.

Not quite able to put my finger on it, but I just can't warm up to Safari. FF runs great on my Alum iMac. I'll "revisit" Safari at some point, but for me FF is better. I tried Camino briefly, but just like Safari, doesn't quite work for me. Different strokes for different folks...

The only option Flash gives me is for IE, Firefox, Netscape, Safari. Maybe I missed something?

Not sure, when I ran the flash 9 installer it didn't give me any options, it just installed the plugin for all browsers. Did you quit Camino before you ran the installer?

It occurs to me that when talking speed of browser we need to know everything in the signal chain. Which Mac, what OS how many hops to the internet and who your provider is and what kind of service you have. Each one of the browsers could be better suited to certain combinations. FWIW

Camino is so fast it reminds me of a text based browser like Lynx. The pages really load that quickly.
