Can't remember the last iPhone that had lines out camping. The iPhone X maybe?
iPhone 11

Apple stopped letting people camp out or wait in line in 2020 for iPhone 12 release after Covid hit

Stores were mostly closed except for order pick-ups or appointments. Then the Delta and Omicron variants hit in the summer and fall of 2021. This new wave of infections probably kept people away. After 2 years of no people camping out and lack of press coverage of over-nighters, I think the idea of camping out died.

While I do miss the community of camping out getting it delivered is also quite nice. It is my understanding that stores get very limited stock for walk ins. Carrier stores I think have normal stock for walk ins.

I remember waiting in line once for about a hour. In a Mall. Techno junkies. I also saw a couple celebrities cut the line.

that time of year.

But waiting outside in a tent or something?

Can you even camp out now? I don't think they do that anymore.

I did that once many years ago when it was still a big thing. You do have to hand it to Steve Jobs. He knew how to create excitement.

yes I have been camping out since the announcement last week for the brand new updated AirPods Max with the revolutionary new colors and magnificent USB C.

can't wait for them to die from condensation in completely normal stationary indoor office use for the 3rd time.

hopefully the innovative Tim Cook has created a completely waterproof seal inside the newly designed update that will allow me to scuba dive with them.

Only camped out once, for tickets to see The Who. For three days! Campout was more fun than the concert, which was incredible (third row, center-stage)!

I mentioned this to someone today about getting my hands on the iPhone 16. I have gone this long with my iPhone 14, I can wait an another week when the smoke clears and there is an enough of the iPhone 16's for everyone who wants one.

Oh man, those were the days. I camped out for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 5S (no pre-orders that year, believe it or not), and outside of Best Buy for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Switch.

Not sure if I could do it anymore these days even if it was still a thing 😅

I haven't camped out since the original iPad where I stood in line at Best Buy for several hours and got there very very early. I be sure happy to do it again if there was a project that I wanted that bad!

Why camp out for anything though? Just wait a couple of days, walk comfortably into a shop and leave with your desired purchase.
