Can a Mac Mini use 32GB DDR3 or is it maxed at 16GB?

I have a 2012 quad and use the 32mb setup from owc and it and recognizes and works fine never needed firmware

OWC doesn't sell a 32GB RAM kit for the 2012 Mini and their site states a 16GB maximum. Can you elaborate on what you're referring to?

If it's a 2012 Mac mini quad core, the max RAM is 16GB. If you're using 32GB, it's another Mac model and not a mini.

You man from the future! Did you not notice with your advanced brain that OP is asking about DDR3 memory here, not DDR4?

Mac mini 2012 is using DDR3 memory (1600 MHz was more or less standard in that, but if I remember correctlya, there were some 1866 MHz modules).
