what i dont get is why when my phone says i have 3G its no better than no service. there was a time when 3G was excellent, what happened?

It’s being phased out by all carriers. Definitely no longer supported to the degree it used to be. I think some carriers are completely eliminating it in 2019 (the ones that already haven’t)

I’ve honestly dealt with the 3G being useless since I switched to Verizon in 2013. 3G was great on Sprint (coverage was **** though) The last couple of years at least, it just bypasses trying to find 3G and goes flat out no service. I’ve got to go somewhere extremely remote to get no service with Verizon (I don’t go more than 200 miles out of my area often, though).

The answer is this. Wireless sucks. Always has. You could not pay me enough to use wireless at home for anything but TV. And even that is highly debatable. I was in tech support when wireless first came out. Try setting up a wireless printer in say 2003 or whenever they first appeared. It was nightmarish. For me, it never got better. I ended up telling people I will setup their printer and then if they want it wireless, they can call someone else. Just not worth my time.

I get that for iPhones and iPads it is much better. I get a poor ATT signal at my house so use the wireless network feature and that seems to work OK.

If one goes to Staples and looks at the 100 wireless routers with all their spaceship designs and wing looking things, one goes insane. Apple stopped making their router. They get it :)
