Can anyone enlighten me on this... So if you buy a Verizon phone, you can use it on Tmo and ATT too right. So I buy Tmo version, can I use it on Verizon which is CDMA?

You can use a VZW phone on a GSM carrier. You cannot use a GSM phone on VZW.

The problem is when can I bought the "device only" VRZ phone from apple store.

You can buy it right now if you don't mind the wait. Just go to an Apple Store and ask for a "Device-only" VZW phone.

edit: This is not possible on the online Apple Store BTW.

Does this mean that I can just pay full price for the verizon phone, without having a contract or service with them? Such as having to verify I'm their customer or something in order to buy it?

When you go to your local Apple Store just tell them you want to buy a device-only VZW phone. They will not ask for anything else besides money. At that point you can pop a GSM sim in and go your merry way. If you want to activate with VZW that's a whole different story. You have to call VZW so they can attach the phone to your line/account. You'll have no problem doing that.

Yes, you can use it on all 3 US carriers and any GSM carrier. Just not Sprint.

You can order it online from the Verizon store if you follow these steps.

This makes it sound like if you're going to buy a device only, the Verizon one is the best bet because you can use it on AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile, where as the AT&T or T-Mobile ones can only be used on those two.

Am I right, or is there more knowledge I'm missing?

EDIT: I'm not even a Verizon user; I'm on AT&T. I'm just going to buy device only because I don't want a contract and NEXT costs the same as just buying the phone outright.

But I do not want to register or anything, since I'm currently in AT&T and want an unlocked phone so I can use it when I visit home. My option is to go to Apple Store?
The Verizon iPhone is unlocked. The issue is getting them to sell you one device only. They will tell you they don't sell the iPhones without Verizon service. Hence the steps in the thread to order one full priced without service.

I ordered one from the site yesterday and it's delivering today.

Yes The Verizon version can be used on all 3 carriers. Increasing it's resale value.

Yes VZ is most versatile. It was my top choice this morning but all of their 6 Pluses were gone before I could request one. (Well they had one gold one left, but I didn't want it). Then I chose ATT because I knew if it worked on T-Mobile I'd have an unlocked phone. Then I got a little worried with "what if it's not unlocked"...even though I knew it would be, and I started this thread. Luckily it all worked out. :) They were also out of T-Mobile 6 Pluses.

OH crap! I just realized I didn't post the Macrumors thread with the instructions how to order a Verizon iPhone without service. I posted the wrong link.

Follow the steps in the thread to order a device only iPhone 6 from Verizon's website. Several of us in the thread have gotten it to work and received shipment.

Thanks for the info. And you actually tested this by putting a Tmo sim in the ATT phone or just basing it off of the iTunes unlocked message?

I am using my Tmobile SIM in my ATT phone that I bought this morning device only at the Apple Store.

Another confirmation that if u use tmobile in the initial boot activation u can actually use tmobile network in an Att device only iPhone (purchased from Apple store not from Att)

Also, talked with Att csr the other day , they said all full price iPhone 6 are unlocked. Not tested personally though.

Bought a contract free ATT phone at Apple yesterday. I didn't restore in iTunes and I didn't activate with a T-Mobile sim. I just used my current ATT nano sim. Out of curiosity I popped in my wife's T-Mobile sim and sure enough it worked.

All full priced "Device Only" Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile iPhones from the Apple real store are unlocked except for Sprint. It doesn't matter which SIM you use to activate it. It's unlocked.

It's funny though because that is absolutely not what they tell you at the Apple Store. They tell you adamantly that there are no unlocked phones.

Yea that's what I heard too, some guy wanted to buy a factory unlocked iphone 6/6+. Apple sales kept telling him that they don't sell factory unlocked as of yet.

But in fact, if you buy as a device only, it will be unlocked (Sprint Excluded). I just bought an iPhone 6 Plus 128 GB Gold AT&T Model device only. I plugged it in, and sure enough I got the "Congrats, your phone is officially unlocked" message.
