First of all, we don't have AT&T in Canada. We pay for the sim card, and we can use it however we want.

The USB tether option for iPhones works fine as long as you have iTunes installed (it has the driver). Android only supports windows officially, but there is a workaround for Mac.

I'm still confused what you are proposing.

If I have an iPhone, I don't need to tether... The phone would be getting data from AT&T.

Are you suggesting I get a motorola phone and tether to my iPod?

Whatever works best for you. The easiest method is to just use one device, but some people may prefer a specific experience (iOS vs Android).

The Moto E is around $100 US and the Moto G is around $190 US based on Amazon.

If you cannot solve the Nokia tethering issue, then these are good phones that could help (the stock Android version makes for a faster experience and the updates are quicker). You can find them used or even choose a different device.

Hope that helps.

It would be nice to own a single device. I just don't prefer owning an android or smart phone because it will raise my data plan by double.

Your contract should say if your are allowed a smartphone or at least ask your local AT&T store.

Or maybe find a new device to pair to your Nokia.

All major cell phone carriers (in the US at least) require a smart phone data plan if the phone runs Android or IOS. That plan would be $30 extra a month. If a phone runs Symbian OS, etc. it requires only a $15 unlimited data plan. Smart phone data plans are not unlimited anymore... So, I don't want a smart phone.

Ah, I think that your Nokia is not pairing in a way the iPod expects. This might be a iOS issue.

Apparently a member on this forum is still able to tether. He posted several pages back confirming that he can still tether on this update with the same exact phone.

My IOS device will pair, but it immediately drops the tether about a second or two after it starts.

I'm utterly stumped :-/.

Hello again,

As I mentioned previously, I initially had the same Bluetooth pairing problem as the OP when I installed iOS 8.1.1 on my iPod Touch 5G.

I turned off Bluetooth on my Nokia C3-01 and removed the pairing by choosing "Forget this device" on my iPod. Then I turned Bluetooth back on and re-connected from my iPod. I accepted the pairing request on my Nokia and a Bluetooth connection was established and my Nokia immediately opened an internet connection.

I've had no more problems since then connecting to the internet through my Nokia over a Bluetooth connection. I'm on iOS 8.1.3 now.

There are still 2 cases where a Bluetooth connections drops immediately:
1. If I already have a Bluetooth connection active between another device (my iPad) and the Nokia phone.
2. If my iPod is connected to a WiFi network.

Hope you manage to get your problem resolved.

I can pair to the phone from the iPod successfully, but the connection drops right after the phone says "Successfully connected to iPod".

I followed your interactions exactly and I'm not having any luck.

Maybe I should mail you one of my spare phones to see if your sim card has any luck with my device.

Hello again,

I think I just managed to replicate your problem.
On my Nokia I opened "Settings" and then "Configuration". On the Config. settings page there is an option "Preferred access pt." I changed this to a different setting and now the connection from my iPod drops straightaway. Do you have the correct setting for your network set in this screen?

I'm in the UK, and my phone is locked to the O2 network. I think the settings that appear here are set by my network provider.

Ah, that fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Configurations and changed the "Default config. setting" from "AT&T" to "Personal config."

Instantly the iPod picked up the phone and started sharing the internet.

Thank you so much, friend!

Can you please tell me where the "Configurations" tab is at? Is this on the iPod, iTunes, or on your desktop? I am having the same issue...
