Orwell was an optimist.

His timeline was off, but he definitely saw the future... as here we are, standing in line, fighting to buy the latest and greatest telescreen.

You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.

I can agree with this statement.

My mom is really paranoid about the government and I gotta say that over time I've felt the same way.

"Mom... you REALLY think the government want's to keep tabs on you like your some high end terrorist? You really think your THAT special eh?"

You ever think maybe it's not just the terrorist they want to watch? You can be a good law abiding citizen , go to church, say your prayers, take your vitamins, live a healthy productive lifestyle. What does that person know? Are they intelligent free thinkers? Are they good at solving problems? Do they look up certain things online alot? Why do they look up these things? (even non terrorist related) Is Gov doing everything by the book? They hiding anything that they wouldn't want the masses to know? would they use the excuse " Terrorism " or whatever they could against a person? just to shut them up? or put them out of the picture?

Tell your Mom not to worry about it. Just stay off the computer and play along lol

They are always listening. Thats why the battery life has been bad for some users or should I say "terrorists"

Let them, maybe the will listen to my wife and I working on our budget and get a clue. :D

They now know where you work, where you shop, where you eat, what car you drive... they can track you and bug you a thousand ways if they wanted to without you ever knowing.

Forget phones and GPS, all the above data is already out there.

Work: Tax forms already tell state/federal/county where you work
Shop/Eat: checking/credit/debit card transactions as well as "loyalty card" info tracks this activity unless you always use cash every single time
Car: vehicle registration and insurance says what car you drive

What about iPhones? And if they can be hacked, is it possible to prevent it?

iPhones absolutely cannot be hacked in this way. However, the NSA would appreciate it if you keep your phone positioned in your pocket with the microphone facing upward. No reason, really.

I was totally going to bash this but you redeemed yourself.
Yeah op they can

US Government Spies on Quakers and other Peace Activist Groups

You're the one not paying attention.

You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.

That mindset is exactly why we're pissing away the 4th Amendment...

Look: it doesn't matter that they aren't actually out to get you. It's that you have RIGHTS as a human being... basic human rights that no one should ever violate. One of those is a right to be free from unreasonable search & seizure. I don't for one second think my government is "after me" - but I'll be danged if I'm going to allow weak-minded people to destroy my rights along with their own.

I think all this talk of battery drain is from Apple Corporate tapping into our phones and not only listening but using the front facing cameras to spy on us. :D

I knew a chap called Jim around 15 years ago. He had come out of the Merchant Navy, was doing the same college course as me, and smoked a lot of pot.

He genuinely believed that the government watched people through fibre optic cables in your television and would cover his TV with a towel.

A friend who had kept in touch with Jim told me he died some years ago from cancer. This was about the same time as Litvinenko was poisoned. I mean he said it was cancer but who really knows?

And yup, they're probably listening to you right now!

Now i know why my iphone 4s battery life is so bad. The FBI is listening to me snore while I sleep.

If you have an iPhone 4 it's no problem. All you need to do is take off the case and hold it when you don't want them to hear you. Then the signal will be gone.

See there was apple looking out for us all along!

Well said.

This "i've got nothing to hide" attitude is dangerously ignorant.

Today its a terrorist. Tomorrow its a free thinker. The day after tomorrow you'll have a chip in your brain.

Freedom of speech and of privacy is what holds this future back. And governments (including US, Israel, Russia, China etc etc) are there to impose this future on you.

And if you're living with your pink glasses on and think governments are there to do you good, well, take them off and read independent news and research.
