just getting new phone and need more space.

When I check space used on the old phone I find that I have twø libraries, _ an old 59GB itunes one and a newer 62GB Music one.

Is there any way of saving significant space by consolidating these two into one? Is there any wastage of space involved?

Where are you seeing these libraries - Settings > General > iPhone Storage?

I have "Music" there and also "iTunes Store;" if that's what you're seeing you could certainly delete the iTunes Store storage & re-download the bits you want later (or don't; you can also Stream purchased music without downloading it).

No, I am just using an ordinary file explorer. I was well aware that when iphoto changed to photos, it involved creating a new gigantic photo storage file. But on closer inspection, the old file is just a shadow of the... new one and doesn't actually take up any space. So I wondered if Music acts in the same way?

But no, the 59GB itunes one has CDs ripped up till the date of the changeover and the newer 62GB Music one has all CDs ripped since that date.
