Depends, do you have an ECID file on record of a previous firmware?

yeah thankfully i jailbroke it after i updated to 3.1.2 and cydia stored that stuff LOL... at first i assumed the battery problem was from the jailbreak but it was fine until recently it started draining like crazy.. Yesterday i did a factory restore and the battery life is still miserable.

You realize that to go back down to 3.1.0 you need a 3.1.0 ECID on file. If you just jailbroke on 3.1.2, you will not have that necessary file and hence you will not be able to download.

Have you tried restoring without using the backup?

Did you do what this poster asked? Restoring from a back-up is a big no-no if your main reason of Restoring was that you had a problem already.

yes i set it up as a new phone. Ive read around the net and there are alot of complaints about battery life in 3.1.2. i guess i'll just have to wait for an update.

Restore the whole iPhone using stock Apple software. If your battery keeps on doing the same thing, then take it to Apple; it's a hardware defect.

Agreed. My battery life has been better since updating to 3.1.2, I've been really pleased.

    thanks for the advice

I did a restore using the stock Apple firmware and still have battery issues. I suspect there may be a problem with my battery :(
Unfortunately there is not Apple store where i live the closest one is 2 hours away. I purchased my phone thru AT&T will they help me or send me to Apple?

You could give it a last try and delete the existing ipsw from the iTunes Software folder. And let iTunes download a new one.

Call Apple Care, they will set up a case for you. They will tell you to do what we already told you. Tell respectfully that you already did everything on the Apple support documents on the Apple Support Website and that the final advice from Apple.com was calling Apple Care (that will take care of many unneeded time spending and will speed things up with your replacement).

Huh? In any case, Apple signs all firmwares.

Yea, iTunes will allow the choice of 3.1 or 3.1.2
