I JB my iP4 a while and since then I have been using it without problem.

Sorry I am a bit lost and not sure what I need to do now regarding to JB again and move to iOS5. Can someone provide me a link or an idea what I need to do step-by-step please?

Much appreciated!

I tried jailbreaking my iphone 4 and got this "IPSW iphone 3,3_5.0_9A334 is required.

Googled it now i'm downloading

I agree, but the mods disagree. Feel free to send annk a PM. I'm sure if enough of the community voice their opinion they will reconsider.

Nice update adding in iPad and iPod touch.

Who's the mod that un stickied? annk? Would I send a message to him/her asking for the reinstatement of sticky for this thread?

I'm not condoning harassing the mods, but surely if enough members find it useful, I'm not sure why they wouldn't sticky it - but it's really not my decision

And there are currently six other threads above this one in hack forum that could have been answered if a stop in here first were made. Job security?:p:cool:

At first, iOS 5 was so new and shiny.. even has lockscreen notifications done nicely! But getting sick of these various colored icons locked into place as Apple deems appropriate, all of equal size, with no springboard!-:(

Where is that untethered JB for iOS 5?:p

I was considering jailbreaking my 4s but had a question in regards to the tethered jailbreak (because it seems like only the older versions have an untethered jailbreak).

What happens if I were to jailbreak it (if and when its released) and my battery dies or I shut my phone off and I am not by a computer? What if I am out and dont have access to a computer? Will I be able to use it at all?

I received some questions regarding this, so to answer the question;

This guide will not provide information for beta softwares, as they tend to change very often and are not official releases.

Updated!

Note: Unless you're on an old-boot rom 3GS, it's highly advised by the jailbreak developers that you do NOT Upgrade to 5.0.1. 5.0.1 has closed some security loopholes that may make untethered and jailbreaks more difficult!

i don like it

Bummer.. still waiting for the untethered iOS5 jailbreak. Its already been a couple months.

the untethered is apparently going to be a while considering (i think i'm wrong with my facts here) but the origonal bug/kernel that they were exploiting to use the jb has been either patched or removed, which is why it's taking so long. it may actually not come out for a long time. tethered is still available, but u really dont need that unless you are desperate. IOS 5 is not bad by itself i kinda like it. the main reason i was using the jailbreak b4 was for installous (i know not the nicest thing) and the ringtone customization. ios 5 gives u ringtone customization completley (about time) and there are actually apps that allow you to do things a little more cost effectivley. idk if i will get the jb even when/if it comes out.

I can't understand why so many are hesitant to jailbreak tethered. If you are already certain that you must power down your phone on a frequent basis for one reason or another, or are going to drain the battery constantly before having access to power.. then I get it.

But I've been jb on 5.0 using redsn0w since mid-October and really I've forgotten that it's tethered. If you don't have a fixation with rebooting your device at random or taking risks with sketchy downloads away from a computer then go ahead and do it tethered; we're not suffering with you.:p

I agree. I never reset or turn off my phone. I think in all the years of owning iPhones the battery has never just died. Of course an untethered is convenient, but at this point any jailbreak would be killer ...

Mods, can we please make this a sticky. Thank you.

:D

The real problem lays with the A5 chip. The exploits they were using are userland (software based), not bootrom (CPU based). That said, Apple was able to plug these software based holes in the final versions of iOS 5, thus iOS 5 it's non-jailbreakable on A5 devices. They discovered an A4 bootrom exploit about a year ago and thus going forward all A4 devices (iPad, iPhone 4, ect.) will be jailbreakable apparently.

So I'm really not sure what they are struggling with (untether or actual jailbreak).

I can't understand why so many are hesitant to jailbreak tethered.

I have two iPads and one iP4 (not connected to a cellular plan) and an iPod4 that are all still on 4.2.1, all JBed.

And now I a iPhone 4s on 5.0.1.

So, to get them all on iOS5, I am willing to be tethered as the only thing that really needs to be stable is the real phone (the 4s) and it can't be JBed anyway.

But, I don't want to start from scratch on the other devices. How can I easily go straight from JBed 4.2.1 to upgraded 5.0 with JB? Is there a "best" link to follow for this?

Thanks!

You can't really "upgrade" a jailbreaked phone and maintain the jailbreak. Just DFU + Restore them to 5.0.1 (The iPad, iPhone 4, iPod 4) and then jailbreak using the links in this guide

Just DFU + Restore them to 5.0.1

I know there are lots of help guides out there...and I successfully JBed the devices previously, but I am feeling a little overwhelmed since I am trying upgrade it also.

does anybody know of a link where the steps for going from an older version are detailed?

Thanks!!!!
