How does Quake Live differ from the Cd version? Less maps? No multiplayer? Less modes (ctf, death match, 1v1, etc.)?

Pay sites. Find a trusted one...free porn=higher risk for trojans.

Really? I admit I view porn. But I've never 1) paid for it, or 2) got any trojans. I wouldn't dare surf over there on a Windows machine, but on OS X I just click wherever the **** I want and there's no problems. Just use your common sense - when Safari senses malware, it'll tell you - you listen to it. And if anything asks for a administrator's password, don't enter it.

In other words, use that grey mass of cells inside your skull.

if this thread has become inappropriate, i would hate to see what appropriate is. gumballs and lollipops, puppies and kittens.

I've seen more off color talk on christian forums.

anyway.... apple does in fact allow for both printer and iPod. I however am not sure if BB does the printer since i was not in market for one.

I do know first hand that they give you an instant rebate on the iPod. you dont have to put up one red cent for it.

only draw back is IF you decide to return or exchange your computer, it is a 15% restock instead of Apple's 10%.

I would like to leave you with one last thought to ponder:

Do you spend you time looking at porn and gaming because you can't find a woman. Or can you not find a woman BECAUSE you look at porn and spend your time gaming..

think about it........

No, you THINK you have no problems.

As for the OP I'd suggest sticking to the quality muck sites to avoid anything unsavoury. :p

Really? I have no performance problems, there's nothing suspicious running in Activity Monitor, I've never actually downloaded anything (in other words, the download manager window was never used). How could I possibly get/have a trojan?

 back.

I watch porn to release my sexual frustration. I've never been on a date (cause I've never asked a girl out) and I never know what to say to women anyways. Have you guys seen the show "The Pick up artist?" If you have, I'm like those guys...

I don't recall ever installing stuff from porn sites, so I have no idea how I got viruses and malware and whatnot. As for the rebates and Best Buy, I'll call them tomorrow.

On Windows (and particularly on IE) you can get viruses/trojans/malware without you even knowing just by visiting a website.

This doesn't happen on OS X.

Grow up, MR is not for adolescent teens on here who want to talk about inappropriate material. The conversation was getting progressively out of line. HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Get off your high horse is all I'm saying. Please, provide me a quote of something that is "inappropriate". The absolute worst I have seen in this thread is someone's joke about "using the wrong gun". OK. Innuendo? Ooooohhhhh..... Considering you are not a moderator, you have little say about what is "acceptable" here. Neither do I. If this really angers you that much, report it and see what happens. Worst comes to worst, some posts are edited out to keep it "on topic", and we move our little bickering to the politics section.

I think we can all agree that this is not the place to talk about the explicit details of pornography. NO ONE HAS. Grow up, man. Asking me how old I am? Come on. Sign #1 of immaturity yourself. I am supporting someone's right to make a joke, and to ask a legitimate question: how safe is surfing porn on a Mac? People do do that, and, considering this guy's track record, he would be smart to look for other options lest he fry another PC.

OK, back on topic. OP: as for the games you are talking about, ravenvii nailed it. They are both "ancient", and will run fine on a netbook. Read the minimum requirements: a ~400MHz Pentium II, 128MB RAM, and a 16MB video card. EVERY mac made this decade, in all likelihood, blows those requirements out of the water. You will get phenomenal frame rates on any Mac you buy today. If you get into newer, more graphics-intense games, than getting a Macbook Pro with a discrete video card would be good. But then again, even my Mid-2007 Macbook with a GMA950 is playable on games like Portal at medium-high quality settings. Point is - look at what you play, and more than likely, any Mac you get will be dandy.

I was on Firefox. I just switched to IE because it is letting me play streaming video a little bit better (with Firefox I just see a picture and hear audio and with IE the picture moves a little bit lol- I say picture because its choppy).

The PC that I really screwed up has Windows XP. This PC which is sorta screwed up is running Windows ME.

Out of curiosity, what Macbook Pro has that?

Well there's your problem. IE + XP = virus city. You might actually be safer on ME (lol ) simply because it is old, and few enough people use it anymore that it is hardly worth writing new viruses for. Either get a modern PC with Windows 7, or get a Mac. Either way you will likely be safer. And lern from your experiences!!!! Be careful! Get decent protection (scanners, etc)

The higher end version of the 15" (minimum 2000 bucks) and the 17 inch.

Oh, and I believe you asked why people like Macs instead of PCs, well, this is a start :

If I get a mac, do I need a virus scanner?

Edit: I'm confused about your pic. You have all of those threats on a mac?

No. Just saying that I have yet (to date) come to a website that tries to fake out the user interface of OS X and tell me its all infected.

Not really.

Edit: I think he forgot to crop his screenshot. The pic shows what you have on PC's. You do not have that problem on Macs.

What'd I forget to crop? I showed all the relevent info. A scareware site with a windows xp user interface running safari (A: With the window buttons in the top left of the window) and a shot of "About this mac" clearly showing its not a windows box.

I think I have to be a member for 24 hours to receive private messages. If that's the case, can you guys wait a day and the PM the porn sites you use? :D

I mistook your meaning. I thought this was simply a picture of some anti-virus on a horrible infected XP machine, and that you screen-shotted it instead of uploading a file of it or something (bad assumption, I know. It sounds even more illogical now that I say it out loud ;)). My bad. I see your point though. It is a little harder to dupe someone on a completely different UI when you are trying to pretend to be windows :D

now that would mean admitting that we look at them too. it's more fun to act like you're the only one. :D

just kiddin. i'll hit you up with one my um, friend uses..

Okay, I'll tell you all you need to know about running Quake 3 in your Mac. Note that your Mac will run it without a hitch... I've played this game with ancient computers and had it run fine.

First, I'd recommend running it through Bootcamp, as I've heard the Mac version is REALLY hard to find, and even then, not sure if it's kosher with intel macs.

QuakeLive was released this thursday for Mac and Linux, but has been around for a while for Windows. Quake Live is a FREE game that you can play right in your browser without having to install any apps (I think only a plugin is necessary). It is only Online Multiplayer, and it has maps from Q2, Q3, and Q4 I think.

Now if you want to go for the retail version, you'll have to decide between two installs of the game if you want to play online (only ones with a decent online community left): 1.32 and 1.16.

About the other stuff... enjoy your teen years...

i feel like the op is running us through circles...

go to an apple store and ask a rep these questions. he'll show you everything you need to know, give you information on the computers that would be perfect for everything you do, and tell you all about the rebates and what you can do with them.

most of the reps that work there are probably slightly a tad less loserish than you're describing to us (for reasons i do not know), and will probably let you know about their favorite porn site they like to visit on their mac.

its a win-win-win for us, you, and them.
