Can you skip it? If you cancel is the phone activated anyway?

Not sure why it is prompting this if your account has an iPhone data plan.

Either way, see above, you are still grandfathered w/ the $20 plan.

I don't know why he is being prompted to downgrade to the 2G data plan. I have never once had to do that when using my 3G sim in my 2G iPhone. I just tried it myself in my post above. My data plan is still a 3G data plan.

The inconsistency is odd...wonder what the difference is? FAN account?

Ok I just verified my posts above by placing my 3G sim into my 2G iPhone. It told me to connect to itunes, two seconds later, my iPhone was activated and running with no screen that you posted above.

I have just confirmed this myself by placing my 2G sim in my 3G iPhone. No screen asking me to change my data plan, my sim just worked after connecting to iTunes.

I inserted my 3GS SIM into an original iPhone just yesterday and it didn't ask me to connect to iTunes. Push and YouTube don't work, but I can sync with my iTunes library without problem. This is what my AT&T account looks like:

So AT&T knows about it but is keeping me on my 3G plan.

So now there are two of us who have just tried it and didn't get this change data plan screen. I wonder why you got it.

My AT&T pnline account still shows that I have the 3G data plan but it shows my 2G phone as my current phone.

My options were to "Cancel" (which I did, and it just exited the activation process entirely but did not activate the phone) or "Continue" which I assume would mean I was agreeing to that change.

Someone mentioned a FAN discount which I believe we do have. So that could be the reason I got that screen.

My whole reason behind this was because I was not eligible for the subsidized pricing until March of next year and from what we could tell neither were the other 2 lines on our account, however we just verified that the primary account holder IS in fact eligible so I will be using that upgrade instead and this is no longer an issue.

Thanks to everyone who helped, it's greatly appreciated. I'm sure this will help someone else out in a similar situation.

I wish I knew what was happening with this. This is the first time I ever heard of AT&T doing this with the original iPhone.

My sim was actually activated in the original iPhone to begin with about a month ago. Once I put it in my 3G phone, AT&T automatically changed my data plan to the $30 3G plan. I wonder if this is why I never get that screen telling me to change my data plan when I place my sim back in my original iPhone.

Just something to think about.
