Theoretically the GPU is upgradeable since it's an MXM slot but in real world, compatible GPUs are hard to find and cost a fortune.

Sigh This topic comes up about every 4-6 weeks here and the answer is the same: it's technically possible but I've never seen even one person actually DO this and I'm on four different Mac boards on the internet - you figure SOMEONE would have done it by now. It's probably not worth the effort methinks.
The easy way to upgrade the gpu is sell the iMac and buy the newer model. When I purchased the 2009 iMac I got the slowest cpu and the fastest gpu. knowing that i can get a cpu and upgrade when the warranty is done. or i can use the machine as a monitor.
