I use the calendar on my iPhone to basically organise my life - but is there a way I can get it to sync with Microsoft Outlook? If so... umm.. how? I am not very technical!

After you add your iCloud account to the Outlook app, you can go to Calendar and select which calendars you'd like to be displayed.

If you haven't already added your iCloud account, you may need to first generate an app-specific password to use your iCloud account with Outlook.

Add your outlook account under settings >calendar>Accounts>add account> outlook.com

That’s how I have mine setup.

I think you need to also check it isn’t syncing with icloud too ?

settings>your id>icloud>ensure “calendar” is unchecked.

Wondering if there is an option from iCloud dot com, to export your Calendar item. Then, in Outlook dot com, you can then import the items.

Going forward you can then just use only one calendar, Outlook's. Merely an idea...

Thanks guys!

But.. what is my iCloud account? I’ve never knowingly created one but I guess I just have one, how do I find out what it is?

Go in to settings....

First item, at the top should be your Apple id and your iCloud login....

That’s weird, the email address it shows right at the top is my Outlook.com email address...?? Which is the email address is use in MS outlook... but I don’t see any of my iPhone calendar entries in the Outlook calendar!

Me too. That’s because you and I have chosen to use the outlook email address as our Apple id.

That’s because you haven’t ‘linked’ your outlook calendars to outlook, either how I, or @Namara , outlined.

Sorry I really don’t understand at all

When I add an event to my iPhone calendar, how do I know what “account” that’s going under?

Ok this is my calendar account settings

Outlook is inactive and iCloud is active.

BUT if my iCloud account IS my outlook email address then I don’t get that at allllll

At the moment it’s “not going to any account “ in truth....it’s going to “calendar” and being ‘synced’ (effectively backed up) to your Apple id.

If you make the changes above the syncing effectively is with your outlook account instead.

I tried unticking “calendar” from the list of apps using iCloud and I lost every appointment and event I had!!

You probably use iCloud for your calendar on the iPhone.

It would be best to use outlook for your calendar service to sync it to your PC automatically and wirelessly.

To do this you need to migrate the iCloud calendar to outlook otherwise you will lose all your calendar data. There are ways to do this with exporting vCards.

After you migrated the data, you can switch off iCloud calendar on your phone and switch on outlook calendar. It is done in the settings app. For the iCloud you need to go into iCloud settings. For outlook you need to go in mail settings then select (or add if not present) your outlook account and turn on the option to sync the calendar.

When I mention outlook account I mean the actual outlook account not the Apple ID bearing the outlook name.

Haha ok I think I’m not sufficiently technically minded to do all this, v-card stuff etc, so I think I’m probably better off leaving it as it is, thank you all for trying though!

You don’t need v-card stuff at all !
You can achieve what you need simply, by doing what’s outlined above.

My worry now is if you’ve lost all your calendar entries ...

His outlook calendar is empty so if he switches to outlook and turns off iCloud then the calendar will be empty too.

What you can try is to turn on iCloud again and it will sync down all the deleted entries.
Then turn off iCloud calendar again but keep all data on the phone (if there is an option, I can’t remember). Then turn on outlook and see if the entries on your phone get synced up to outlook.

I realise that....that’s my worry because the link TO outlook should have been first ...

Ok I turned iCloud back on, and in the calendar I re-selected “calendar” under “iCloud” and now my appointments are all back, phew

So which post should i follow to migrate my iCloud calendars to Outlook...?

Follow what I outlined above...

starting with settings > calendar etc ....

but, for now, don’t uncheck calendar In iCloud.

Go into outlook app.
select calendar icon at the bottom ....

are your calendar entries there ?
