Ok, thanks so much. If something were to go wrong with this and I can't keep the unlimited data or something like that, how would I go about canceling the service/how much will it cost to do so?

I guarantee that you will be able to keep unlimited data when upgrading to the new phone.

If on the small chance that you can't, you have 30 days to cancel the account but you would still have to pay for this months service that you used which would be +/- $73.

Just go to the store and drop it, or call 611 and drop it. It took me 5 minutes when I sold my 3GS a while back.

I was just wondering if AT&T had anything like Sprint where they'll refund everything if you cancel within 30-days. One more question: I plan on doing this, but I want to do it with a family plan. How do I go about doing it?

As far as I know, AT&T doesn't refund money for canceling within 30 days.

Adding a new 2G plan to a family plan may complicate things but since the unlimited data plan is the only available plan for the 2G, it should work out ok.

I would activate that 2G ASAP and before Thursday gets here, add that plan to the family plan so that way you are guaranteed to keep the unlimited data plan.

A few years ago, I had three iPhones activated and went to the AT&T store to have them all put on a family plan. The rep had to basically make a brand new account to place all the iPhones into. This is why it could be a problem in keeping the unlimited 2G plans if you don't do this before Thursday.

No, what I meant was I want to sign up an entire family plan with 5 lines, but have 4 of them with the unlimited data. I'm currently with T-Mobile on a family plan, so were all going to switch and get our numbers ported. What do you think?

I'm not an expert on this so I really can't help you here.

I have three lines open but each are on their own account.

I do know that iTunes will not allow you to create a family plan. It will allow you add a 2G iPhone to a plan that is already setup for a family plan.

So could I start a family plan with 2 lines and then add 3 iPhone 2G's to it, and then upgrade them to the iPhone 4 next week?

If on the small chance that you can't....

I'm glad you guarantee it, I don't think AT&T will though....
They will not let him upgrade his 2G data plan to an iPhone 4 with unlimited data.
That option will not be available to him to upgrade to.

There is a statement on the AT&T site that says 2G unlimited data plans can upgrade to the $30 plan with no problems. It was issued on the same day that they said we could keep them when upgrading a 3G/3GS to the iPhone 4 unlimited data plan.

I wonder if that was date specific though.
Either way the op should contact AT&T to find out for sure.
I hope your right though.

The 2G isn't playing by the 3G and 3GS rules. It is the only iPhone that has the unlimited data plan as it's only choice even on new activations. There will be no problems in keeping unlimited data when upgrading.

I also know this because one of my 2G iPhones that I activated just so I could upgrade to the new phone, offered me unlimited data when I entered it's phone number on Apples reservation screen last week. I activated this iPhone after June 7.

I'll be back on in a few, I'm off to BestBuy to get a 2TB drive for $123.

Any update on whether or not this will work? I plan on doing it very soon if it will work.
