So I’m kicking myself now. Right after work I went to the Apple store. The guy I talked to brought out a box with another 15” and we compared the boxes. The writing on his was different. It didn’t have the kB-US/CA bit, it just said USA somewhere.
Before this I spoke to Apple chat support and gave them the serial number and the guy told me I do have the French Canadian version which has the weird keys. Mind you dude took like 15 minutes between responses. I was finally able to get an answer out of him after about 30 min.
So back to the story. The guy at Apple tells me it’s likely got the French Canadian keyboard setup and that he can’t replace it for me since I didn’t buy it from Apple or Best Buy. Fair enough I get back to my car and text the eBay guy. Basically tell him that the verdict is out on what kind of keyboard it has but it’s leaning toward it being weird. I said you decide what I should do, open it or send it back. He said open it.
Glad I did.
