Yes - Theres always bus in software - but consumers don't and should not expect show stopping bugs that affect basic functionality - such as in this case - cell connectivity.

In this instance I don't see how this is blown out of proportion.

However, because Apple is very high profile company it will attract more media publicity for both positive and negative, and Excessively.

Now I am a loyal Apple customer, not because of blind fanboyism, but because I truly believe that, for me, Apple makes the best hardware and software. I want my products beautiful, enjoyable to use, and functional. I do not care about Apple as such, or Steve Jobs, or any other thing associated with Apple. I could not care less if the company is called Samsung or Microsoft. I look at these things mostly from the perspective of a TOTALLY selfish consumer. I want companies to make good products FOR ME.

That said, I believe that bad publicity, even if blown out of proportion, is one of the best things that can happen to Apple in the long run. Apple is still good, but it needs to step up its game and stay way ahead of the competition. "Every" software release has bugs. "Every" product has problems. Right, but does Apple want to be like "every" other company? By it's own claims, it does not. True, perfection is hard to come by. By some of these things are just TOO FAR from perfection. Apple can be better than this, and hopefully with enough pressure it will not become complacent, but wake up and improve.

Like, if you can't do a live stream right, and if it takes 3-5 days to get an OS update to download...don't tell me this is the best Apple can do. Those who make excuses for these things in fact have less confidence in the company than I do.

Because of the hysteria of several users losing TouchID after updating, we now have national news headlines trashing Apple's name.

The thing is, bugs are to be expected in any software release. If you've worked for a software company you know it is impossible to eliminate all bugs. Sometimes you just have to release what you've got, and hold some bug fixes until later. Most people know this, and yet it seems like a large contingency of people here are screaming about these bugs like Apple just made a fatal mistake.

Overall, iOS 8.0.1 is a stable, functional operating system. Android would kill to have the stability and fluidity in iOS. Let's stop perpetuating the Android fanboy memes about iOS and start using our brains a bit.

A PLANE CRASHED AND MY WHOLE FAMILY DIED but i mean ... the software at the tower might have just have been updated. things can happen, nothing to be upset about ... right?

From what I could gather, this bug killed cellular service for about 95% of iPhone 6/6+s that updated. I was one of them. This was not a minor bug, but a flat out failure on apples part to adequately test the ota update.

95%? Try 100%

I have yet to hear of anyone that has cellular service working on their 6/6+ running iOS 8.0.1. How could anyone call this a minor bug? Apple rendered the phone part of iPHONE useless.

I agree that in this case it does not seem blown out of proportion. This is why I said "EVEN IF blown out of proportion", in response to the OP's perspective. I think that even if blown out of proportion, Apple needs some of this public spanking. I hope it keeps coming stronger and stronger for a while.

There were some reports of people with 6 or 6 Plus phones that were with some international carriers or did the update via iTunes where they didn't run into these issues.

It's like we're back to the "Apple can do no wrong" days here again.[/QUOTE]

When was this is a thing?;)

Much as I'm an Apple fan, this is ridiculous fanboying.
Apple DID make a big mistake in releasing SUCH a bad update.
It killed some peoples' ability to make phone calls. That's pretty serious for a phone!

EDIT: I can't remember it happening until now - have Apple ever had to pull an iPhone update because it screwed up the devices this much before?

Mine was one of those that lost cellular service. I will wait for some time in the future. My fault for not waiting, I should have known better. I did download 8.0 and restored but this was a pain.

This is a HUGE blunder by Apple. They killed the phone service of a device that has phone in it's very name. They deserve the press they're getting and maybe it won't happen again as a result. :apple:

Well said Stella. There is a place to express your opinion and request changes all the time. Apple will not recognise or correct any bug any sooner anyway. Why not speak off these issues whether major or minor.
Btw, this is the perfect places to do that.
IOS 8 has ruined my enjoyment of the camera. Temporarily of course....
Fir a year I could not enjoy finding and placing wallpapers with the kids because they kept bouncing and zooming into and out t ya.
Thanks for the fix Apple. Its about time. Mr.Jobs would not have let these things out of Cupertino never the less go uncorrected for so long.
The major issues , well there's no excuse for any real time to pass without a polished fix.
This is Apple don't forget. The best , the creators and innovators of this all.
At some point I would like " perfect" and " it just works" for my $775.
I'm loyal enough and always will be so that the 9 or 10 grand I spent with them over the years buys me that to.
If it does not than sue me.
We put upon with the slow ,Sutton sometimes bland upgrades from launch to launch and yet remain loyal.
I say go Wright ahead and complain of the small hugs...

Are you Tim Cooks mother or something, a pig in sheeps clothing is still a pig.

I like Apple. However, I don't think it is good to be drunk on Apple juice. Apple dropped the ball today. It was, and is a big deal, when an update renders a lot of phones unusable, and having to be restored.

And in my opinion, Tim Cook should have made an announcement about this and apologized, not to mention directing people to the Apple store to help correct any phones affected. That is what leadership is supposed to do.

Sorry ,that last sentence got away from me.
" we put up without the slow, calculated sometime bland upgrades from launch yo launch. ... ...

Seriously dude, you're the one that needs a reality check. Do you work for GM and did you have a role in the ignition failure because that lame rationalization lies at the heart of their cluster.

I have done multiple OS upgrades and updates over the years and this is the first one that, for me, has really screwed the pootch. If I had known I was updating with a beta version (and wait for the held back bug fixes) I'd have passed. But no, I relied on past experience and faith in Apple's ability to put out a quality, dependable OS upgrade. Lesson learned.

If these are minor bugs, I'd hate to see what you consider a major bug.

I had NO cellular service or Touch ID for over 3 hours until I was able to get an 8.0 IPSW to restore. So sorry, Apple's name DESERVES to be trashed for this. There is no excuse for bricking phones out of their incompetence.

Is this thread a joke? A bug that kills your cellular connection and the main security feature of your device rendering it unusable is not 'minor,' it's probably the worst possible thing that can happen. And it happened to ALMOST every single iPhone 6 and 6+ that updated. Apple's deserves all the hate and negative press they're getting.

Agree completely. Who would even start such a thread lol

I have a feeling that the OP made this thread expecting to get applause from people that had no issues with the 8.0.1 update but it's backfired lol. Thus the reason he hasn't commented again.

To the OP, this isn't a "minor" issues it's catastrophic and Apple knows it. Nice try though.

Overall, iOS 8.0.1 is a stable, functional operating system.

Minus that fact that you can't currently make a phone call on an iPhone running iOS 8.0.1 right? ;)

Android would kill to have the stability and fluidity in iOS.

lol Android doesn't have to "kill" to be stable and fluid. It already is. Give up the old arguments dude, they're no longer valid and make you look very ignorant. Seriously, that might fly in the :apple: bubble, but in the real world, you'll just get laughed at.

Let's stop perpetuating the Android fanboy memes about iOS and start using our brains a bit.

You first.

There were some reports of this, but there are reports of similar issues every iOS release... and I'd wager to say, FAR more reports of it after an Android update.

Such as?

So catastrophic that Apple hasn't released an update to fix the "problems" yet...
