Hello everyone,

I'm using an unlocked iPhone 4 running 4.2.1

It's jailbroken and SHSH for iOS 4.2.1, 4.3.5, 5.0.1 are saved (says Cydia)

It's running smoothly but i'm interested in upgrading it to iOS 5.

Will it still be possible to Jailbreak it ?

Thanks !!

if you upgrade normally you will lose your unlock. you will need to update and preserve your baseband with a JB tool. Im not going to be much help with specifics as I havent had to do any unlocking since the original iphone.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Oh no you didn't say it was a factory unlock. Just update to 5.0.1 and jb so you save your 5.0.1 shshs before apple releases a fix

Hello all!

Real excited about the 4s Jailbreak...

I have a few questions about the JB..

I've been a JBer on a few different devices for a few years now...so I'm some what familiar.. But sadly I forget steps along the way..

1.Apple seems to want to update to 5.3 or something and I see the JB is for the 5.1 version..
How do I get the 5.1 version on my iphone?

No matter what you do to a factory unlocked phone it will always be unlocked.

SHSH, isn't that old things with jailbreak? I haven't seen it being needed nowadays, maybe it's just me, but not even the 4S requires anything with SHSH :p

Just upgrade, jailbreak and go :)

It's really easy to JB today.

5.0.1 is the latest IOS and is what itunes should say as well.. 5.1 hasn't been released yet so no worries.

You need to run OSX to jailbreak a 4S though otherwise you need to wait for a windows version.

Hook phone to USB
Backup phone in itunes (right click on the device and choose this).
Start absinthe - click jailbreak
Wait until it tells you it's almost done (it will say!)
Find the absinthe icon on one of the home screens and click it
Phone should restart
then cydia should be on there instead of the absinthe icon and it should be done.

If you get an error when opening absinthe on your iDevice, then go to settings and turn on VPN, it will give you an error (which should be expected) and then restart after about 5-15seconds and it should be done.

Is it really going to be that much of a PITA to upload to 5.1?

What do you mean?

No-one knows yet as it's not out, so we wouldn't know if jailbreak works with it too, maybe, maybe not.. Time will tell!
