Yes, just wanted to caution readers that it's not true about email in general. Also be aware that if they have your address they might use it to phish a reply from you.
I believe there is an option an option in Instagram where you can hide your email address from your profile. But if you don't have that option set then yes they could if you have your email address added on your profile. So you should check that to make sure. As for the YouTube question I believe if you subscribe to someone on YouTube they will be able to see your username. I don't believe there is an option to hide your username.
That and spam is why everyone should insure it's off (Mail > Preferences > Viewing > uncheck "Load remote content in messages").
If i can ping the email , i can send you SPAM , OR get the recipient to reply to an email, which upon replying will include ip address in headers.
But that involves an action on the receiptant's part. The original question was does an email address give away their IP.
I wish people wouldn't try to spin this outside what was asked. Really now.
Every server that you contact can get your IP address. For example, the macrumors servers have your IP address. The _must_ have it or they couldn't send the pages of this thread to your computer. For example, look at http://whatismyipaddress.com .
if you can ping the email, the email receiving the ping has to confirm it by an ip address, the average person cannot, but it is possible.
Why are you guys going completely off topic?! The question was if anybody can get IP address from an email, the plain and simple answer is NO.
If you send an email to someone, your IP is always in the outgoing email's headers, and can be seen by the recipient. Every public email provider does this. Most private ones too. It's a standard feature of email routing and must be actively disabled by the email provider in a super complicated way (using email header rewriting filters), which 99.99999999% providers don't do, since it's good to have the IP to combat spam/crime.
So yes anytime you send an email to ANYONE you send out your IP number. You also send out the name of your computer (hostname), which may be something like "StevesMacPro.local" which helps an attacker know what type of OS you are using, if they want to try to attack that IP.
Example from an email someone sent me, I can see that he is "c-76-19-225-19.hsd1.ma.comcast.net [76.19.225.19]":

I think it's completely relevant to show the OP that there are many, many ways to collect his/her IP address other than through their email address - i.e. have you plugged all your holes or are you still taking on water.
Almost...the question was can you tell someone's IP from knowing their email address.

Dude what the hell does this have to do with the OP question? Did you even bother to read the question before you wrote all this crap. The OP asked and I quote "Can somebody get my IP address if they know my email address"? The answer to that question is NO. They will only get his IP address if he sends them an email first, which is totally different from what he is asking. He is asking if somebody knew his email address like say off his profile page or if somebody gave them his email address, would they be able to get his email address. NO. What you are talking about is if he sends somebody an email first. That requires an action on his part first. The only reason you have that persons IP address is because he send you an email first. But if somebody was to just give you his email address you wouldn't have s**t. Which is not what he is asking and is totally different from what you are saying. Two totally different things. Read the question fully first before replying.

As some have mentioned it's potentially possible for someone to send an email (with some analytics/tracking information) to the email address which will then report back some information when that email is opened.
Yes but only if he sends them an email first. That's not what he is asking. He is asking if someone where to know his email address would they be able to get his IP address. The answer is no. He didn't say "If I send someone an email would they be able to get my IP address" The answer to that question is yes. But he has to send them an email first. If you give me your email address say on the phone, in a text, if your friend gives me your email address, I wouldn't be able to get your IP from just the email. I would only get it if you gave me your email address in an email. Which is totally different from what he is asking. Read his question again and you will see what he is asking. He says nothing about sending someone an email. Which then of course they would. Two totally different things. Hope that clears that up for some people.
P.S If he sends me or anyone an email address first then you don't need analytics/tracking software or anything to get their IP address. Just look in the email header.
As I mentioned this would be without any email being sent out first or at all by the email account in question, simply via an email being revived and opened by the email account (with someone just sending one to the email address).
Didn't have time to read this entire thread, but why does the OP care about someone getting his IP address in general? (Regardless of how it is gotten.)

want to lurk on youtube...make a new account not with a name you are known for. Or even parts of the name.
Here's a hint...don't use l33t speak if a unique name you are known by. take mine, its my most common internet name. rarely has anyone taken it when I join a site or game even. Rare are the people who even get the statistical model reference lol. I want to be all stealth ninjya lurker style.....h1dd3nmark0v not really doing that.
Or to make this even easier, avoid this by not subscribing in you tube. Simple stuff really....take the few seconds to find the channel(s) by hand. You are now a random video hit. A mysterious +1 view...done. its not that hard. I half ass follow many channels/youtubers. I am not subbed to any of them. My boy likes their game play vids, I think they suck (as players and presenters). They have my +1 view to make some money. they won't get my +1 sub to make even more.
Counterquestion: if someone does know the current (your ISP likely cycles it) IP address assigned by your provider to your home connection, what would they do with it anyway?

What he is asking is if someone were to just have his email address, not an actual email with his email address, would they be able to get his IP address. The answer is no you can't get someone's IP from just an email address. If he sends an email to somebody who forwards it to somebody else, then yes. But if you send me an new email and give me his email address in it or give it to me over the phone I would not be able to get his IP from just the email address. If he sends you an email and then you forward it to me then yes I would be able to get his IP address from the header. But he had sent an email to someone in the first place and the person had to have had it. Which is different from what he originally asked.
Why is that providing the he sent out an email to someone? As I mentioned no sending of any email to someone first or at any point is involved, simply someone knowing the email address and sending an email (with analytics/tracking included) to that address.
