Take a look at Waterfield Designs as well: www.sfbags.com They're made in the USA, and there are a number of bags and sleeves offered. The price isn't much more than the Apple leather case either. 😉

Saddleback and Waterfield make premium products, but to optimize the lightness and function of the iPad Air I don't think you can beat the Apple smart case. Overpriced but it just fits. 🙂
I wouldn't be happy with that edge either. I would take it back and try another. You can get a pretty good look at the front through the plastic cover to rule out black dots and bad edges. There should be multiple ones to choose from.

The edge looked fine through the plastic cover. I think it's just because it sags a bit at the edge because if you pull it or put something on top of the cover so it goes flat, the edge is aligned.

I thought this was mail ordered. If the store is nearby, return it until you get one that makes you happy. Open it in the store, and save some time. I saw a YouTube review (regular reviewer, can't recall... Detroitborg maybe), and he had a top that didn't overlap for easy opening. He liked it anyway....
