Laptops are purely meant for tables/desks.

I want you to read that sentence a few more times.

----------

With the iPad Air or Mini you can fully lay down in a more relaxed way with the Pad resting vertically on your chest. And you can navigate the Web effortlessly and elegantly via hand gestures alone. With a laptop I would think it would be awkward trying to use the track pad while laying down.

Depends. Also there's no way to easily "rest" and type on a tablet while lying down. I put my laptop down on my legs, knees up a little, and there's no need for me to "hold" it. It just sits there.

I think it boils down to this: whichever you use, you'll adapt. But IMO there's no way to easily TYPE while lying down with a tablet. When I don't anticipate needing to do a lot of typing, the laptop sits off to the side. When I think I'll be doing a lot of chatting, the laptop comes out.

Laptops are purely meant for tables/desks. They just felt really awkward and cumbersome when I used to use mine in bed. You will have to worry about not covering up the vents etc, which is not an issue on ipad. Ipad i always throw down on my bed, try doing that with a laptop.

Desktops are made for desks. Tabletops are made for tables. :)

why the iPad is better...

It's only better if it's better for YOU.

Everyone is different, and everyone has different needs.

With all due respect, that was a truly silly question (And when I say silly, I mean "idiotic")!

Muffintops are for.. err.. :D

Only advantages I can see of an iPad over a Macbook are size, price, and reading text.

I can't actually think of a task other than reading that is easier done on an iPad than on a MBA. Even such simple things are an involved process in iOS compared with OSX.

I almost wanted to give up when I had to select a few bits of text to make bold.

To each their own ;)

I can't wait until Apple release a countertop machine. Or maybe a bartop computer.

I once saw a guy sitting at a bar with a "portable desktop computer." It had probably a 27" screen and folded up like a laptop. The guy had a little metal luggage cart to carry it. It was very odd haha :)
