Why would anyone need to handoff from an iPhone to an iPod touch.

There are times when my iPhone is charging in another room (usually bed room) and I'm walking around with the iPod or it's sitting in the living room/acting as an iTunes remote.

Granted, it's not as extensive as iPad/Mac but it still serves a convenience

The reverse would not be possible as the touch does not have a sim or network phone capabilities.

Wifi calling has been around for years I use it on the ipod every day. There are no technical limitations only carriers trying to protect their cash cow.

I know. I'm saying seems pointless to handoff from a phone to another similar sized device. To the larger iPad and Mac it's makes sense.

Some people carry an iPod touch and an iPhone to help save space for more important things on their iPhone, like having music on the iPod for more room for pictures and videos on the phone. I don't personally see the point in having both when you can just have the iPhone (just get a higher storage option), but some people still do this nonetheless. So if they carry both, sometimes one device or the other won't be nearby when around the house or something.

What Apple is doing is just their late to the game version of what lots if us have been doing with third party calling apps for years. iPod Touch5 has always been able to make telephone calls. Whether Apple wants to add their own lame version of it or withhold it because they think they're still king of the mountain is up to one of their pointyhairs.

I don't understand why people think Continuity is so lame... Who wants to use those third party apps (which frequently have annoying ads, and design decisions that are questionable and/or don't use the flat look well at all) when you could have your default messaging app sync SMS from your phone to everything, and you don't have to use specifically your iPhone for everything, just reach for the nearest device and you can still call or text someone with Apple made apps. No ads. Better design and functionality. No more switching between Messages and TextNow or something to text people, just go to a different conversations where the bubbles will be green instead of blue.

According to the demo I think it will be possible. The iPhone is still making the call, the Mac, iPad, or iPod touch just act as a relay between your mouth and your iPhone. I think it'll work.

I am sure it will do. iPhone relays to an iPad, Mac, cannot see why a Touch will be no different. AFAIK the requirement is an iOS8 device that has a speaker and a microphone, so that it can talk/listen the relay from the iPhone.

Great idea. We don't have to have the iPhone within hands reach every minute, just any iOS device will do. This, and Handoff makes us treat our devices as just one Apple device, magic.

Calls no, Texts, Yes

I don't get why you are saying it can't answer calls through continuity, but it can send SMS with continuity. The iPod Touch meets the requirements, iOS 8, Wifi, mic, speakers. Also, someone clearly posted screenshots of their iPod sending SMS (Green message bubbles) and settings in FaceTime that had a switcher for making calls using your iPhone. Also, UI for calling people although it failed.

Because handing off a call from the phone to an ipod makes no sense. From a phone to a mac makes sense.

The things that kills it is it uses bluetooth to see how far the iphone is. In theiry you could have your phone charging while you are listening to your ipod in the yard. You get a call and your ipod rings. You don't miss the call and don't have to run into the house to get the phone.

i did try making a call with the ipod and my iphone. Ill have to see if it works 40' away in the yard. Stay tuned....

Yes it can !

The sound is not perfect but the caller was perfectly able to hear what I was saying.

And I think it works over wifi, not bluetooth...
