I don't like it either. At least we should be able to hide it away (easily).

I use the Internet to find alternative sources of information, not mainstream news. If I wanted to be spoonfed my opinion I'd wander down to the CVS, get my daily dose of chemicals (err I mean Coke Zero) and pick up a copy of Time.

Look I'm sure SOME people used Ping but guess what? it got canned.
Now no one's saying that Apple should trash Newsstand, but for the large number of people who don't even read magazines,it should be hidden or a downloadable option just like iBooks.

BTW,This isn't anymore stupid than any other opinion thread

If "some" people use it enouh for companies making a nice profit off it, how can it get canned?
You know what's more annoying than the app you can't delete but can put it away easily on the last page nobody will go there? A thread about the same thing a dozen threads discussed ad nauseam.
Your annoyance is legitimate but to start the thread with the same tired whining is not helping people understanding your issue.

I don't quite get your point in your first sentence. When I said what I did about Ping I was pretty much saying that newsstand may be important to some but not to most.
But Dude if you find threads about the same thing that annoying, then maybe forums aren't for you. Or you could just..I dunno..keep scrolling past them :/

I think it's better if mods just do their works by merging them. When the place don't get moderated it feels.. um.. uncivilized, but hey some people might like it. :)

i.e. A bunch of opinion blogs written by subpar journalists with tinfoil hats firmly attached to their heads.

only old people still read magazines

old news

Correct. Hasn't the Internet basically made magazines obsolete? If you think about it, magazine content and the Internet are actually very similar.

Anyways, here's another vote against Newsstand. I hope Apple's experience with The Daily will cause them to realize Newsstand really isn't needed.

newstand in a folder, w/o jailbreak or fiddly do

This doesn't work anymore. This convenient glitch has been killed since iOS 5.1.

if you search this forum, there IS a trick to hiding newsstand in a folder, and there's also an APP to do that: StifleStand (on macupdate).

mine's in a folder, with other apps i wish i could delete (stocks, game center, etc).

There should be a way to update all magazines in one go.

And magazines should not be apps. There should be only one magazine app.

Maybe I read it here on MR but I believe the crapware that is called Newsstand stubbornly behaves the way it does just to appease the content providers. I suppose one or more of them insisted on this just to get onboard. (Or Apple threw them this "bone" just to nudge them a bit?). Nothing to back this up though.

Be thankful we can at least move the damn thing to our very own "crap" screen which for me is the very last one. I never go there.

Once you jailbreak they're many options to hide it for good.

But I agree 100%, newsstand is pure crap.

I would not call it 'crapware'. Even though I rarely use it (and only have one app inside it - NY Times) I know people do. I agree you should be able to hide it in a folder however, if you so desire.

Newsstand is all about foisting something into your face (sorta like an ad) to make you buy magazine subscriptions. There is no way to get rid of it. It seems to me that it is bundled crapware in iOS. The only reason it is there is to make you spend more money.

My point exactly whenever I try to find articles for my Newsstand.
My Newsstand is always empty!

It should either be a downloadable app with the "newsstand store" built in, like iBooks and the iBookstore.

Or magazines/newspapers should just be integrated into iBooks.

The content of iBooks consists of simple ePub documents. The content of Newstand consists of totally independent apps. They are not remotely compatible.

Because I personally have absolutely no use for it, its crapware to me and will always be crapware on my idevices, so I prefer to have an option to at the very least hide it.

Newsstand is one of those things that I don't use and have no interest in...but I can't fathom the level of bitching about it. It acts as a lovely ass-end of my app folders...and that's all I need it for.

I just put it on the last page of my apps so I rarely see it.
I'd love to see better content, but that's just me.
If you are one of the people who use it, then it obviously has value for you. But I'd sure like a way to delete it...
